Fimbul Ice Shelf

Fimbul Ice Shelf (70°30′S, 0°10′W) is an ice shelf about 120 miles long and 60 miles wide, nourished by Jutulstraumen Glacier, bordering the coast of Queen Maud Land from 3° W to 3° E. It was photographed from the air by the German Antarctic Expedition (1938-39), mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by NBSAE (1949-52) and air photos by the Norwegian expedition (1958-59) and named Fimbulisen (the giant ice).
