Talk:Filip Konowal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've amended the info on the Canadian VC and the English motto; the change to a Latin motto took place roughly 65 years or so after the award of Konowal's VC. Michael Dorosh 08:36, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
I've placed the London Gazette quotation in a <blockquote> tag. This breaks wikipedia's auto-paragraphs, so I've manually added <p> tags in the quotation. Sorry if you don't like the look of the wikitext, but please don't change it for no reason.
Using colons in front of each paragraph makes it look the same, but this makes each paragraph a separate definition list, with a single definition and no term! This is meaningless markup, and didn't even belong in web pages in 1995. It's not accessible, and is likely to break in handhelds, cell phones and page readers for the handicapped.
If you know how to start working on updating wikitext to make useful markup, please let me know. I realize there will be resistance, but we have to start somewhere.
There's a relevant wikipedia bug report: Bug 367

- Also, please don't put in template:cquote for block quotations. It inserts a table into the markup instead of a blockquote, and adds big pink cartoon quotation marks which are hardly suitable for running text in an encyclopedia. 207.7.108.203 (talk) 16:45, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Consistent date format
Regarding the edit MOSDATE is for no commas in dates:
1. wrong: "Wikipedia:MOSDATE#Full_date_formatting" describes two formats and says "articles related to Canada may use either format consistently". 2. so changing the format of one date out of nine in the article improves it?
Why don't you open your eyes and see what's going on in an article, before you start revert warring?--207.7.108.203 (talk) 20:16, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Last time I looked at MOSDATE it seemed clear that it recommended no commas whatsoever, it has evidently been updated since, and when I double-checked I realised you were right and self-reverted. I initally cut and pasted the dates from the Gazette website wehre commas are not used - and since that is effectively a quote from an original document there would be an argument for retaining their style, but I'm content to leave well alone. In future I will make use of {{quote}}, rather than cquote, it also has the advantag over direct use of html blockquote elements that standard paragrpahing works, but I don't intend to change it in this article. Dear 207.7.108.203: Two edits isn't quite an edit war. Please read WP:CIVIL and tone the language down. - Ahunt (talk) 12:21, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
