Would someone be able to take an exterior photo of a Filene's store before the chain is converted to Macy's in August 2006? J2rome 06:22, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

There was a 40 % discount in Filene's. This store will be closed. I thought the reason of the discount is this. Last Friday, on 14th of April 2006, I bought a watch from there. I asked the salesgirl if she can make narrower the watch, but she told me she can't, also told me that you can go to any jewelery store and they can make it narrower for you. After that I went to a jewelery store and they narrowed it. When I went home looked my watch carefully and saw that there are lots of scares on it and on the belt of the watch. On Saturday I went Filene's and showed the scares on my watch, the salasewoman told me that since our manager is not hear you should come Monday. I didn't went there on Monday because it was national holiday for M.A State. Then I went Filene's on Tuesday spoke to another salesman and he told me the same thing since our manager is not hear you should come anothetday, but he gave me their manager's work hourse. At the end I went there today 20th of April 2006 and showed the scares on my watch. They told me it is the reason why they make discount. I told them, if I know this issue I would't buy it, anybody didn't tell me this. They showed me the writting that is on the shalves which says "almost perfect". However I am not a native speaker, I am a froigner and it's my 4th week in USA. I am here for improving my english skills. I tryed to explained that how can I understan what does it mean. After lots of talking they decided to change my watch but the othet one that they offered me was not better than mine. I refused to change it, I told I don't want this watch I want my money back. They refused me and showed me the receipt, there is a stamp on the receipt which says "All sales final no returns on trade ins". However they stamped my receipt after I payed or after they get the money. Untill I got the receipt, there is no opportunity to know that they don't accept returns. What is more they told me this watch is made norower. May be these scares happened in there, but it has lots of scares and scares are not near the narrowed part, they are in the different parts. The other thing they told me was you should be seen the sacers on the wach when you tried it. However, because it is not so clean, there is dust on it, I couldn't see, and also they are not so deep, if you doesn't look carefully you couldn't see anything. It seems to me that it is an unfair stuation. My english is not good enough to andrestand the meaning of "almost perfect", moreover how can I know the reason for discount is not because they are closing and try to finish everything in that store. Before I came to USA I tought that there is a justice for every person who lives in this country. However I am not sure now, I think it is not fair after my explanation to refuse my rufund request. That watch is not cheap, since I couldn't understand the expression, I pay almost $787.50 In this point I would like to learn that if there is something that I can do to get my money back. If you can help me I would be so pleased. Thank you in advance.

[edit] The Change to Macy's

Since all the Filene's stores are currently being transitioned to Macy's, should all the Filene's locations be changed to Macy's or until September when the transition is complete? Any suggestions? Thanks! Bucs2004 00:25, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm assuming that we shouldn't change them just yet. The Filene's in my local mall may now be owned by Macy's, but the sign on the store still says Filene's. I don't know if that is true for any of the other stores, but I would think that until the name gets officially changed, when the transition is complete, is when we should change it. [edit] Talk:Filene's

I have a photo of Filenes ,taken by myself. I was an employee of Filene's for 37 years ,last posotion was in the Advertising Department. I am new to the site , how do I upload the photo and to whom and where on the site. Camera625

Use the "Upload file" link on the left side of this page (part of the toolbox). Be sure to put the appropriate licensing info (I always use the GFDL Self-Made license). Then you can go ahead and add it to the page. This contribution would be greatly appreciated, since nobody seems to be able to find a pic now of a Filene's! tiZom(2ยข) 22:15, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Filene's; The name

Is the name Filene's up for ownership?

[edit] Enhancing the History of Filene's

I worked in various capacities for Filene's in the downtown Boston corporate HQ on Washington Street, reputed to be the longest street in the USA -- for the President, in Human Resources (Executive Recruitment), Men's Buying, Operations, Gift Registries, Mail and Phone, and Advertising, etc. Of course, all of this would lend itself towards an oral history project, perhaps bankrolled by the surviving Filene's family (or even Macy's), but I recall, during my years in the Advertising Department on the 8th floor, an elderly woman in public relations who was considered to have been the institutional memory of Filene's. I doubt that she's still alive, but she would have been an invaluable resource for enlivening Boston's history of Downtown Crossing from the 30s or 40s through the present.

I have some recent photos of the store building and neighborhood from the past few years before the store was closed, but sadly I have none of the staffers at corporate HQ.

I'd like to see a list of the senior management teams and a discussion of how that changed over the more recent years during the grooming-for-sale and later the acquisition periods.

I'd also like to see more of a history of Filene's and the Filene's family, including the rooftop zoo, the competition with Macy's, which took over Jordan Marsh, and historic comments about the core businesses of this flagship store, particularly cosmetics (the floorspace of the Filene's cosmetics counter was reputed to be worth more per square inch than any floor of any high rise in Boston, including all financial firms. The claim may be spurious, but it was widely relayed during the Nineties.
