Filmistan

Filmistan was a film production company of Indian film industry from Goregaon, near Bombay. It was founded in 1943-44 by producer Shashadhar Mukherjee, who came out of Bombay Talkies after director Himansu Rai's death. Mukherjee brought talents like actor Ashok Kumar and director Gyan Mukherjee along with him. Filmistan produced a number of successful hit movies in 1940s and 1950s.

Shaheed (1948), Shabnam (1949) and Sargam (1950) were hit in the box-office. Anarkali (1953) and Nagin (1954) were very successful.

Jagriti (1954), Munimji (1955), Tumsa Nahin Dekha (1957) and Paying Guest (1957) were all hits.

Nasir Hussain, who joined Filmistan in 1948 as a writer, was successful as scriptwriter for films like Anarkali, Munimji and Paying Guest. He started film direction with Tumsa Nahin Dekha and became a successful director.
