The Filmfare Best Female Debut Award is given by Filmfare magazine as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Hindi films. Technically, this category comes under the Filmfare Sensational Debut Award as it represents the male and female category. The award for best female debut first started in 1988 and was titled Filmfare Lux New Face Award (except for a special award, Best Female Debut, given to Tabu in 1995). The Filmfare Lux New Face Award was last given to Preity Zinta in 1999, and in 2001, it was renamed Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. The renamed award was first given to Kareena Kapoor and that has been its title ever since.
