[edit] Fighting Spirit(manga)???

The article is about the manga, so why is the page titled Fighting Spirit? To my understanding the manga has not been published in english under that title, only the anime has been. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.217.20.176 (talk) 19:32, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The current article lacks lots of info

After a long time without reading the hajime no ippo article, i discover that most of the info was deleted. Where are all the interesting synopsis about the non-main-character boxers? even really important characters like Eiji Date and Ricardo Martinez were left aside. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.166.54.146 (talk • contribs) 05:39, July 8, 2007

Did you check List of Fighting Spirit characters? This main article had basically turned into a very large character list. So that information was split into a separate article that is linked on this page. The reason it was split was because lists of information are generally discouraged on Wikipedia. I've also suggested that some of the media information be split off too. (see discussion below) The information this article is really missing is the production and reception of the manga and anime, but since most of that I'm sure is in Japanese, it may be a bit hard to get it. [edit] Excessive detail

The detail that this article describes pushes it to the 57th volume; Yagi's fishing expertise, Takamura's fight with Eagle but not the results, etc.

I'd say cut it back to a basic synopsis of the characters.

I agree, or at least a spoiler tag should be added to the character section.

--Hello. Given the fact that this article has reached 40kb and has become rather long, I was thinking of creating some character pages for some of the main/favorite characters. I'm no Wikipedia expert, but I belive that Wikipedia discourages the cutting and pasting of other's content into new pages. I am planning on creating some of the pages and added some basic info, and I hope that those that have contributed to this page will begin to move over some of the content that they have added to the new character pages. Please respond with your thoughts, thank you. Guyinblack25 15:14, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

-Well one piece of advice I can give you is if you is that it would be more noteable for a new character page is if it has multiple paragraphs such as two or three or more paragraphs and if there is no character article on this page that has a large description then I would expend that characters article for that page to make it more notable. -Adv193 15:23, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

--I added a Ryo Mashiba page because his character description looked to be one of the longest. It has very basic information, so I would encourage others to remove whatever information about Mashiba that is nonessential to the Fighting spirit page and add it to the new page. I'm thinking about adding a Vorg page because he also has a long description. Any thoughts, please respond. Guyinblack25 15:32, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

--From the looks of it the best kind of advice I can offer is to shorten the Ryo Mashiba description to a short summary on the main page and move the more elaborate details to the new character page and also if there is any kind of useful info that is not on the summary yet then it would be a good idea to help add that info. -Adv193 15:41, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

--I changed the Vorg redirect page to a character page, so to those editors that have added information to both Mashiba and Vorg, please review the information on the Hajime no Ippo page and begin moving over the information you added to the new character pages. More character pages may show up as appear to be needed. Guyinblack25 23:04, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

--I added a Sendo page since his character section has gotten longer now. To all editors, please review any content that you may have added to the Ryo Mashiba, Vorg Zangief, and/or Takeshi Sendo sections and move any unnecessary information from the Fighting Spirit article to the appropriate character pages. Guyinblack25 19:37, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

--I added an Ippo page 1) because he's the main character, and 2) as a premptive attempt to help keep the Fighting Spirit article short. Ippo's section on here isn't too long, but now if other editors would like to add more info, there is a page to do so. Guyinblack25 21:08, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Character Lists

In an attempt to clean up the page some, I propose that the "Characters" list should be altered some. Mainly taking some of the Gyms with only one character out and moving those characters to the "Other gyms" section. Of those gyms with only one character, any character that only had one fight featured in the story, should be moved. The characters that come to mind are, Kenta Kobashi, Iwao Shimabukuro, & Keiichi Take. Any thoughts? Guyinblack25 03:08, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Split the article

--Just had an idea that I thought I would throw out to anybody that actually reads the discussion page. What would everybody think about splitting the Fighting Spirit page into two separate pages. The second page would be a "List of characters from Fighting Spirit" and comprise mostly the character section on the current Fighting Spirit page. The character section would still remain on the main article, but in a much more condensed version and only include the main characters of the series, possibly some notable minor characters that are important to the plot.

Excessive character detail has been a slight problem in the past with this article and moving the characters to their own page would alleviate this. Along the individual character pages, this should allow users to add the details they feel are worth including.

So what are everyone's thoughts? And if you agree with the idea, which characters do you think should be kept in the main article? (Guyinblack25 21:22, 29 January 2007 (UTC))

If there are no objections, I'll split the character section of into it's own article. (Guyinblack25 18:03, 13 February 2007 (UTC))

[edit] COMMENTS ABOUT THE MANGA

It used to be a really great manga, but lately (at vol.76), the storyline has declined. Here are examples of this bad decissions:

- Giving too many importance to the most worthless character ever seen in the series, Manabu Itagaki. the " I-have-absolutely-no-personality" pretty boy. He bores me to death.

- Killing one of the most outstanding boxers, the heel Ryuhei Sawamura after his fight against Ryo Mashiba.(why?!?!)

- To this date, Ippo´s love relationship with Kumi needs to take the next step or be finished. They really look stupid with his more than obvious love and then nothing.

- The loooongtime announced match between Ippo and Miyata.

- No new interesting boxers have been developed in a long time. the main characters need new really good rivals, specially Ippo. This dont apply to Itagaki, i dont know why, but this idiot is monopolizing the series lately.

- Where is the humour?.We need to see more of Aoki and Takamura.

                                           --MIKE BISON
I'm just gonna reply to each of your comments. I don't mean anything negative by them, I just figured I'd tell my opinion on your comments. :D
-I feel like towards the end of the Itagaki parts, it almost felt like reading it all was worth it. I didn't enjoy the story centering around Itagaki for a while myself, but the end made it pleasant.
-I felt that Ryuhei was too one-sided of a character to have much impact after the fight and still be interesting. Honestly, would you want more story leading up to another fight with "Mmm... Meat... Mmm... I hate everyone... This guy looks after me, maybe I'll like him a bit more, but I really just like beating people up and looking evil while I do it." And if I'm not mistaken, he wasn't killed. I'll have to re-read a bit to make sure, but I'm pretty sure that's just too damaged to box anymore.
-Ippo's relationship with Kumi is nice for the manga, as it's not overly melodramatic, and further emphasizes Ippo's love of boxing. There's many instances where Ippo could've had a special moment with Kumi, but instead began thinking about boxing again, or something to that nature.
-I'm getting anxious about that match as well, but it's another way for the mangaka to keep us in suspense. We don't know whether they'll even fight. If Ippo does infact fight Miyata, it'll feel anticlimactic, and feel as if the manga is only going to progress downhill. We all want to see Ippo to the very end, not to a fight with an old friend.
-Many of Ippo's rivals already exist. Miyata is a sort of faraway, almost unreachable rival to motivate Ippo. Martinez is an obvious one, since he's almost like the god of Ippo's division. Itagaki is rising up below Ippo, and is a possible rival to Ippo in the same way Geromichi did. Can't forget that Sendou is still after Ippo, and a fight is possible.
-I don't know about you, but between fights, I tend to laugh harder than I ever thought possible. Just wait until the current fight is over, and I'm sure you'll have a laugh or two.
Hope you enjoy reading my comments. 66.176.244.196 10:16, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I agree with the fact that Itagaki is a terrible boring character. Being a copy from Ippo is his greatest aspiration, and what is that headband he always carry?. He even have a crush on Kumi too! His sister is more interesting than him.

and , this is one of the best mangas i´ve ever read, why are not some pictures in the article? please someone who knows how, put some pictures of the main characters. Another articles in the wikipedia, like Naruto, Bleach, etc have plenty of them.

[edit] List of real life boxers mentioned in the anime

In the anime, they sometimes mention real life boxers like Thomas Hearns or Mike Tyson along with a animated still of that boxer. I was wondering if anyone had a list of the real life boxers they mention in the anime and a list of each of those boxers who had animated stills.

[edit] Main Characters

Miyata's inclusion strikes me as odd, while he's significant to Ippo's story, he only shows up like once every 5 volumes or so these days. He hasn't really been a main character ever since the end of the Rookie King tournament, which was literally over a decade ago in real world time. I think he should be removed from 'Main Characters', and Takamura, Aoki, Kimura, and Itagaki should be put into 'Main Characters'. They're in almomst every chapter, and most of their fights get focus. They certainly qualify as Main Characters as far as I'm concerned. Kuwabaratheman 21:08, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Moving article

The article was recently moved to "Hajime no ippo". I have just reverted those edits and hoped that the topic could be discussed here. I personally don't think it needs to be moved, but am open to moving it if there is a reason to. Any thoughts? (Guyinblack25 19:21, 22 June 2007 (UTC))

I think it should be moved since its the original name--Greedisland14 02:15, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

The WikiProject Anime and manga project's naming policy states "Use official English titles for article names, and place the transliteration of the Japanese on the first line of the article, unless the native form is more commonly recognized by readers than the English form". So the official name for this series in North America is Fighting Spirit. I guess the question here then would be whether or not the native form is more commonly used by English speakers. Another point is that Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) states "If you are talking about a person, country, town, film, book, or video game, use the most commonly used English version of the name for the article, as you would find it in other encyclopedias and reference works." Personally, I've always and still do call this series Hajime no Ippo, but my interpretation of these polices tell me that we should go with Fighting Spirit. Also if you know of some others that would like to chime in on this, let them know about the discussion. (Guyinblack25 03:37, 23 June 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Splitting media information

After looking at the "Media information" in the "Sections" portion of the Anime and manga project, I thought I'd propose splitting most of the information in the "Media" section of the article into its own separate article, much like the List of Excel Saga media article. At the very least, I think the episodes should be split off into its own article. Any thoughts? (Guyinblack25 18:51, 2 July 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Moving article (again)

I understand WP:MOS-AM asks for "official English titles for article names" and that the TV series has been released as Fighting Spirit... but as the Hajime no Ippo manga still hasn't been released in English speaking countries, shouldn't the article be named Hajime no Ippo? According to the manual of style, articles should be about the first format, not the most popular (nor the one released in the US).--Nohansen 16:39, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

I see your point, that can make things a bit confusing. I believe because Wikipedia's naming conventions states to use English titles, that also effected the decision to use "Fighting Spirit". Though looking at it again it does seem a little weird that it is called "Fighting Spirit (manga)". If memory serves me correctly, the article was originally titled "Fighting Spirit", because that was the official English title, but was then later moved to "Fighting Spirit (manga)". Personally, I don't care one way or the other, but I'm not sure how Wikipedia's guidelines should apply to this now. I think that die-hard anime/manga fans will want "Hajime no Ippo" and some die-hard Wikipedia rule followers will want "Fighting Spirit". You may want to bring this up at the WikiProject Anime and manga's talk page to get some more opinions. (Guyinblack25 talk 17:03, 17 September 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Cancellation?

Can someone track down or find some informations why the series was cancelled or episodes were "postponed" ? I think thats pertinent to the article Sendo 09 (talk) 18:19, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
