Was born in 1921 the only son of Wykeham Stanley Cornwallis and Cecily Etha Mary (née Walker). Had one sister. [1] and was educated at Eton College . [2]

Succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Cornwallis in 1982.

Married twice. Firstly to Judith Lacy (née Scott), daughter of Lt.-Col. Geffrey Lacy Scott, On 17 October 1942 and had two children [3] , divorced in 1948.
Then, to Agnes Jean Russell (née Landale), daughter of Captain Henderson Russell Landale, on 1 June 1951 and have four children.

During WWII, served with the Coldstream Guards between 19401944.

As a Freemason, was Pro Grand Master of The United Grand Lodge of England.
