Fiction Records is a record label that was founded in 1978 by Chris Parry as a home for The Cure. The record label went on to be shared by Chris Parry' Robert Smith of The Cure and Ita Martin. Their office was based in Charlotte Street, London. other notable acts to release on Fiction around this time were the Purple Hearts, Back To Zero [1], Associates, Die_Warzau and Eat. The label's first #1 record was Wish by The Cure in 1992, going #1 in the United Kingdom. The band left the record label in 2001, signing to Geffen at the end of the year.
After a dormant period of several years, the label was then re-started in 2004 by Joe Munns, Paul Smernicki and Jim Chancellor as a Polydor imprint. The first release on the 'new' Fiction was the Snow Patrol single "Run" (which entered the UK chart at 5) and album Final Straw which has since gone on to sell over 2 million copies around the world. Other notable acts from the current Fiction stable include Ian Brown, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Grates, Stephen Fretwell, The Maccabees, Kate Nash, Elbow, Delays and White Lies.
