The FIBT World Championships 2011 will take place will take place in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy for the tenth time, after hosting the event previously in 1937 (Two-man), 1939 (Four-man), 1950, 1954, 1960, 1966, 1981, 1989 (Bobsleigh), and 1999 (Bobsleigh).
Cortina was selected 21-13 over Winterberg, Germany at an FIBT annual conference in London, England on June 2, 2007.
The track will undergo a homologation to accommodate skeleton during the 2007-08 World Cup season in order for it to be used for the event. Skeleton was last competed at Cortina in 1992.
