A former professional geek and would-be author, now disabled (but still a hopeful author, just a lot slower).

Areas of some lay expertise include:

  • Archeology (father is an assistant professor of archeology)
  • neurological learning disabilities and related syndromes (such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, Tourette's, and so on); research pursuant to my teenage diagnosis of ADD.
  • "Ailments of unknown etiology" and other "wastebasket diagnosis" diseases and syndromes, particularly relating to fatigue and dizziness.
  • Bisexuality and publishing - I am a former staff editor of the former international bisexual magazine Anything That Moves.

While I am not a doctor or medical professional of any sort, I have done considerable medical research out of curiosity and enjoyment; I wanted to be a doctor, but didn't have the stamina. I am currently diagnosed (by doctors, not myself) with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and a few other ailments which often accompany that particular package; as well as (previously existing) organic depression, ADD, migraine, and a few other minor learning disabilities and neurological quirks.

There are certain other minor areas of research I pursue from time to time (from carbon nanotubes to Hmong textiles) in pursuit of book material or just more knowledge.

I am also incapable of resisting the urge to correct spelling mistakes, let alone factual errors, and determined it was time to launch an accreditable account with Wiki for that purpose.

I'm beginning to think we need a "Disability project", as many of the disability-related sites on Wikipedia could use rather a bit of cleanup and organization. I'm not sure how to start such a thing, nor do I have the energy to pursue it right now - or to be honest, I'd probably lose my temper at someone if I did try it. However, you can vote for it as a project, or even volunteer, here in the new projects list.

Forgive me as i did not see a talk page, but thanks for the proposal for the Disability WikiProject. And OMG! I used to read Anything That Moves years ago! So if you need help with the wikiproject, or general chat, go to my talk page.. Uppitycrip 03:48, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
