[edit] Esperanza userbox
This userbox was speedily deleted as an attempt to be disrputive and divisive. Community consensus is in favor of the decentralization of Esperanza. If you have any questions, please direct them to my talk page. -- Merope 18:38, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi Feureau. Merope beat me here, I was in the middle of something and the old orange bar flashed up. You know how it is. Anyway, the reason I deleted the userbox is that past experience shows that, however well-meaning, all you're going to do with it is generate drama, and we could do without it. The Esperanza thing has already generated enough drama for one week, I think. It's not that it was a wicked or evil thing to do, it's fine to aspire to a sense of community and Wikilove, but railing against the unfairness of everything in this way is, I'm afraid, just going to make things worse. Better to be calm and wait for the dust to settle, then see if people can't think of a better idea which encompasses some of the same aims without the baggage. So, the idea was to save you trouble, not to make it, and I hope you will accept it in that spirit. Guy (Help!) 18:45, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello, J! It is quite unfortunate that something that exists within a user space that constitutes as a personal expression is suppressed within wikipedia that way. It is unconstitutional and violates the user's basic human rights. That being said, I admit that the userbox is a bit tough on the decision to disband esperanza. But instead of speedy delete, I should be contacted regarding the text first for I am willing to compromise. The userbox initially says "This user calls for the reinstatement of Esperanza". Would it be acceptable for it to say instead "This user misses Esperanza"? If so, I hope I can remake the userbox to a more "acceptable" content. Although it was intended for those "hardliners" who wants the return of esperanza, I don't want to offend those on the other end of the spectrum. Maybe after the dust settles down in a few weeks, I can change the text back to the original. ~ Feureau 01:22, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Nothing to do with suppression of anything, just that after a heavily contended and high-profile deletion it's best to sit back and let the dust settle before deciding what to do next. Otherwise you get drama, which is unhelpful and increases intransigence on both sides. Guy (Help!) 01:26, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed, it's best to let the matter settle for a while first. Would you object to keeping the template blank for a week or so until people are less temperamental about the issue? >Radiant< 09:05, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
(from user talk:JzG)
- Well, an abrupt deletion like that is suppression. Now, I am willing to compromise with a tamer compromise so we can come up with a consensus that would satisfy all sides. ~ Feureau 01:37, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
A suppression of any excuse is still censorship. Perhaps you're referring to one of them Nazi userboxes that are censored off of wikipedia. I don't think this counts as one of them but anyway, I saw that the userbox page is currently blanked. I'll restore the content in a week time. On January 13th to be exact. ~ Feureau E.S.P. 05:44, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] A request
Could you please remove the "practical joke" bar from the top of your user talk page? It only serves to irritate people. People meaning me. -- Merope 16:51, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
I see the opinion is split among users. And seeing it's just a harmless box that hopefully brings cheers to some users. (which usually irritates some, like how south park irritates some (if not all) scientologists to other's cheers) I think I'd choose to keep it unless an admin choose to use their power and remove it. ~ Feureau 05:27, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- Admins don't have "the power" to remove it, and so I won't. I just asked if you would consider removing it. It's not a big deal, but it's something that has bothered other users in the past and has caused problems previously. It is, of course, your user talk page, and it is not technically disruptive. Just, y'know, annoying. -- Merope 05:45, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that's basically the idea of a practical joke. LOL :D Anyway, admins do pull a lot of weight around here. Just like the cops, they aren't supposed to beat people half to death, but they have the power to do so. ~ Feureau E.S.P. 05:47, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- Um, is that some sort of commentary on how admins are doing? -- Merope 06:01, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, if some cops beat you up at the station, you wouldn't exactly be calling more cops to help you. Same with admin. (ref. the esperanza userbox chatter above)~ Feureau E.S.P. 17:18, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Userbox
Hi, Feureau! Thanks for your offer of the userbox. I did use it, but nothing comes out in my userpage? Why is that? Zacharycrimsonwolf 13:14, 14 November 2006 (UTC) 11:00, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi, Zachary, The userbox was deleted moments after it's creation. Only when another admin notified me of it's reason did the one who deleted it came up to me and says so. I recreated with an offer of compromise to reach a concensus only to have another admin blank it. It was then when I reluctantly obliged to have it blanked for a week. So, don't worry, if you add the code now, the userbox won't appear for a week. (13th jan. to be exact) If you like to see what it looks like, I had it subst-ed on my userpage and you can see what it looks like. You read about the concensus here here.

[edit] Proposition
Hello. I have a compromise for your userbox. Perhaps you could change the words to "This user mourns the loss of Esperanza"? It presents the same opinion in a better manner. DoomsDay349 22:00, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
- Well, a compromise has been made and a concencus is reached. You can see the talk here User talk:Feureau/Archive/2007/Jan. Besides, it's not gonna stop any MfDs. ~ Feureau E.S.P. 04:01, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
