Festival da Canção

Festival da Canção is a song contest organised by Portuguese television (RTP). The winning song traditionally represents Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest. To date the only exceptions to this rule were in 1970, when Portugal withdrew from Eurovision and 2000 when they did not qualify. The festival was not staged in 2002, 2004 and 2005. The Portuguese entry of 2005, "Amar" by 2B, which ended 17th in the semi final, was selected internally by RTP.
