[edit] Main Page talk page (refactoring)
Hi there. There were two separate deletions. I hope my refactoring here and here has made this clearer. Carcharoth (talk) 12:21, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, roger that, if you don't mind I'm gonna make them both level three headings, just so the whole thing archives at once. Cheers for the message :). ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 16:08, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Do you have some sort of special control at Wikipedia, if not, as far as I am aware I am allowed to edit anything I want as long as it is not reckless editing. Surely people looking at the waterford talk page don't want to see advice that you gave to another user (it was good advice) and especially sarcastic comments such as the one made by jmccormac. It just so happens that I have a great interest in media and am a news "junkie". Donut216 (talk) 20:17, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hello, you can edit anything you like on the main space provided it does not violate any of our policy's or guidelines, but the talk pages are a record of conversations had by editors, and removing these conversations for any purpose other then archiving is completely unacceptable, particularly when comments by other editors are involved. Wikipedia policy also prohibits refactoring those posts, even your own. I acted well inside those policy's and I suggests you familiarise yourself with them if you intend to make edits of that nature. If you'd like me to point you in the right direction, feel free to ask.
- By the way, thanks for spotting the typo above. ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 20:23, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- I should also mention, the bit about removing comments applies to your own talk page as well, because you seem unfamiliar with the policy I won't put it back, but the Level 1 Warning still stands. ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 20:28, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
What is a level 1 warning, surely only Wikipedia staff are in a position to issue warnings. Also put what back? the comment on my own talk page? Donut216 (talk) 20:42, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia staff don't issue warnings, the majority don't even edit it. Metawiki is the staffs playground. Warnings are issued by experienced editors when they see either a misguided edit, or an act of vandalism. There are several levels:
-
- Level 1 (General Notes): Just friendly notes pointing people in the right direction.
- Level 2 (Cautions): Similar to Level 1, accept that they are more firm, and point out to the editor that they are breaking the rules.
- Level 3 (Warnings): These usually inform members that they are breaking rules only, and normally don't point to policy's, just to emphasise the warnings.
- Level 4 (Final): These point out to the members, that if they repeat there actions one more time, they will be reported to the Admins and blocked for the appropriate amount of time.
- Level 4m (Only): These are identical to Level 4, accept that they are the only warning the member will get.
- There are a couple of variations, but they are for either things that are so severe that they may incur a block without repeating they violation, or things so insevere that they probably won't ever amount to anything, these are called "Single Issue Warnings" and "Single Issue Notices" respectively.
- Yes, it is against policy to remove comments on your own page for any purpose other then archival, but you seem keen to learn the policy's and guidelines so I'm OK with it being taken off. ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 20:52, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for advice, but I am ever so slightly offended by your comment "I'm OK with it being taken off". You are an experienced editor but not a figure of authority, I myself don't mean to offend you in what I say, but I think that stating policy is enough, there is no need to give your own opinion on the matter.
I think we got off to a bad start but I am glad that you are still happy to offer your advice to me.
Also as a relatively new user, I have not been able to find the exact page that speaks of the warnings you explain above, could you please send me a link. Thanks very much for your help, Donut216 (talk) 21:09, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- The thing about that is, that warning or not, it was my comment, and as the writer of that comment I'm entitled to it not being deleted, you see? I wasn't stating my opinion about anything other then that fact. The policy about warnings: Wikipedia:Template_messages/User_talk_namespace, it explains the levels here although I think I prefer my wording :). I'm always around if you have questions Donut216. ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 21:19, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Rob Schneider
"how did no one notice this?" Just wanted to say that they did (or I did at least), but with so many different vandals hitting the page at once it's easy for that to happen - i.e. I reverted one change, but that just uncovered more vandalism etc. So please don't imply that people didn't notice it - I'm sure more people than just me noticed it, but it was all moving pretty fast. Thanks for reverting it when you noticed, and hopefully the page protection will make it better for everyone involved (except the people vandalising! ;). Somno (talk) 02:23, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- I did see the double reverts happening which is why I stepped out and let someone else scan the article for problems, but you have to admit, there where several non-revert edits that allowed the "I Have A Big Cock" middle name to remain. But no harm no foul, the article is where it should be now :). ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 02:27, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Biggest problem for me was that I kept getting "edit conflict" messages! They drive me crazy. :) Somno (talk) 04:03, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Sign bot
transcluded Bloody Signbot [1]. Heh, ty pal. ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 19:31, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- You can opt out of signing- that's what I do. I haven't forgotten to sign in a long time (as far as I know...) but the bot caught me a couple of times doing things I didn't want to be signed (like moving other people's comments around). To stop them signing you, just add Category:Wikipedians who have opted out of automatic signing to your userpage. J Milburn (talk) 19:37, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

My RFA |
Thank you muchly for your support in my recent request for adminship, which was successfully closed on 76%, finishing at 73 supports, 23 opposes and 1 neutral. The supports were wonderful, and I will keep in mind the points made in the useful opposes and try to suppress the Larry David in me! Now I'm off to issue some cool down blocks, just to get my money's worth!
Kidding btw. All the best, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 11:36, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Good job
Thanks for help clean up that mess on Maddox's page! Great job with the references and what not. I removed the unreferenced/unsourced tag now thanks to you. Blizzard Beast $ODIN$ 21:30, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Shadows
The template {{User:Mistman123/Templates/Shadow}} has some additional variables:
wrap = (true or false, false is default)
height = (specify height, preferably in length measures such as "30px")
width = (specify width, preferably in length measures such as "30px" - this field is not always necessary since wrapping the shadow to the content is enough sometimes)
tint = (dark or light, light is default)
spread = (unitless number representing the shadow spreading/thickness)
An example using these fields could be something like:
{{User:Mistman123/Templates/Shadow|height=150px|width=200px|tint=dark|spread=3|content=
(YOUR CONTENT HERE)
}}
Thanks for checking it out. ~RayLast «Talk!» 14:41, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Rename, redirect or leave it alone
Hi Ferdia. I just left you a message at the end of your talk page, re: Rename, redirect or leave it alone. I did not notice the "click here to leave me a message" at the top of your talk page. The color of the lettering was hard to see against the green background. Sorry! ∞☼Geaugagrrl(T)/(C) 20:17, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- moved out of archive Hi there Ferdia. Hope all is well for you in Ireland today? I am writing for help about Churches_and_Chapels_of_Ceredigion which I created in a hurry, and am now wondering how to (or if I should) move it to a sandbox area(mine) or if I should leave it alone and edited where it is? I read the guidelines for renaming/redirecting, but still wasn't sure what to do. Could you please give me advice on what to do? Many thanks :-) ∞☼Geaugagrrl(T)/(C) 20:15, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well hello there, good to hear from you, things are grand in Ireland today, weathers still not sure what its doing but nothing staying inside relaxing won't help, lol. Well that list doesn't fall under any of the CSD criterion, and isn't specifically covered under any AFD criterion, but it is easy pray for an AFD debate in its current form. Now we can easily save it if it were to go to AFD (I have some experience in doing so), but just to save yourself some hassle I would recommend moving it for the time being. Let me know if you want me to do so if your not confident in doing so yourself (I noticed the helpme on the talk page), and just reply here if you want to discuss it further.
- Also, what colour would you find more appropriate for that link at the top of the page? You added this discussion to my second archive by accedent and I don't want to mislead people into doing that. ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 20:32, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Glad all is well in Ireland. Gorgeous here today, which is a fabulous change from the past two weeks of very cold and wet weather. *bleh* It is low tide in hour or so, so we will head to the beach with the dog for a nice long walk. Thanks for offering to help ;-) I will take you up on the offer to move the page. If I cannot figure out how you did it, I will ask. IMHO the link color for leaving you a message should be white. But don't change it just for silly me. Only if you want to :-> Bye for now! ∞☼Geaugagrrl(T)/(C) 23:20, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Done. I've also CSD'd the original, just to get it out of the way, plus this way you can practice page moving when your ready to publish the article :). Here to help whenever, as always :). ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 00:43, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks a bunch! I still need to figure out how you did it though =;-/ Someone came in after you and made deletions. What is that about? Oh, I guess I do need to know what CSD is. Bye for now *wave* ∞☼Geaugagrrl(T)/(C) 03:17, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ooopsi, I get it now CSD *doh* ∞☼Geaugagrrl(T)/(C) 05:54, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry :P. I'll start linking to all the acronyms I use :). Let me know if there's anything else. ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 13:20, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Refactoring
(transfered from Puchiko's talk page)Hey, would you mind not refactoring my comments, cheers. ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 17:44, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'm really sorry about that. I was just copying and pasting it to put it into a search engine, and I guess I accidentally replaced it with the letter m. I'm really sorry, I'll be careful about this in the future. I didn't mean any harm. Puchiko (Talk-email) 18:28, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah I knew something like that must have happened, I know you from main page and I know you know what your doing, just wanted to highlight it so you can make sure you don't do it in the future :). ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 18:43, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] RE: Talk:Main page
(copied from Puchiko's talk page)This happens on an almost daily basis, its nothing to do with AFG. ☯Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 12:24, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Right you are. I'm not exactly a regular there, so I just thought he needed help. Glad it's cleared up now, thanks for explaining to me! weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 17:34, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Np, understandable confusion :).
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:VReel screenshot.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:VReel screenshot.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 15:23, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

I just thought I'd better let you know that there's an unfortunate typo in you comment. Epbr123 (talk) 12:46, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AWB use
Hey there. Not sure how appropriate it is to fix the typos of editors !votes in an RfA. Just my two cents. Tan | 39 15:59, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed, you really shouldn't be changing anyone's comment, anywhere, even in good faith. Restrict typo fixing to articles. xenocidic ( talk ¿ listen ) 16:00, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Currently the archives are in a 30 discussions per archive format. I archive 3 days after the final reply, but normally I forget so it's usually longer.
