Fertitta

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fertitta is a Sicilian-American mobster family from Cefalù, Sicily. The mob moved to New York City in the early 20th Century. Most of the family moved to Baltimore to start a new empire because the Gambinos ran them down. Anthony Fertitta was the don of the family and was murdered in Manhattan in 1937 which led to the flee of the Fertitta Family to Baltimore. After the murder the family put down roots in the surrounding Baltimore and Maryland area. Today the family is not known to have ties with organized crime which mainly can be attributed to the murder and the events that followed the fleeing; after controversial leadership issues the family's unity relaxed. The Fertitta Family has had relatively few run-ins with the law, which were not speculated to be part of mobster activity, and have contributed to the surrounding Baltimore and Atlantic coast society, particularly in the business and real estate related fields.
