Ferrocarril Córdoba Central

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ferrocarriles Córdoba Central S.A. is a company in Argentina which operates a 150 km 1,000 mm (3 ft 3⅜ inmetre gauge railway line between Rodriguez del Busto station in the centre of the city of Córdoba and Capilla del Monte. The line was built by the state-owned Ferrocarril Central Norte, which became part of Ferrocarril General Manuel Belgrano after railway nationisation in 1948. The service is known as Tren de las Sierras (in English: Train of the Hills) and is popular with tourists because of its scenic route through the Sierras Chicas region of Córdoba Province.

As part of a national railway privatisation plan, carried out under the presidency of Carlos Menem, a concession to operate the line was granted to the government of Córdoba Province in 1992 and was later transferred to F.C. Córdoba Central.
