Nélson, full name Fernando Nélson Jesus Vieira Alves (born 5 November 1971 in Porto) is a former Portuguese football player.
[edit] Football career
After spending five seasons with Portugal giants Sporting CP, winning the 1995 Portuguese Cup, Fernando Nélson came to the English Premiership in 1996 when he joined Aston Villa, under manager Brian Little. Although making over 50 appearances for the Midlands club he decided to head back to Portugal with FC Porto, in the 1999 January transfer window, winning the 1999 championship. He retired from football in 2005 and became president of SC Rio Tinto, the modest club he last represented.
