Ferfer (woreda)

Ferfer is one of the 47 woredas in the Somali Region of Ethiopia, named after its major town, Ferfer. Part of the Gode Zone, Ferfer is bordered on the on the west by Mustahil, on the northwest by the Korahe Zone, on the north by the Werder Zone, and on the east and south by Somalia.
This woreda is primarily inhabited by the Rer-aw-Hasan clan of the Somali people, a small clan that is no sub-clan to any main somali clan. Founded by Aw-Hasan (Ka-wayne or Kalwayne) who was killed by the Hawiye in Ubatale, Doollo in early 16th century.[citation needed]
Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 39,898, of whom 18,445 were males and 21,453 were females; 4,411 or 11.06% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 25.2%. Information is not available for the area of Ferfer, so its density cannot be calculated.[1]
