Ferdy Mayne

Ferdy Mayne (born Ferdinand Philip Mayer-Horckel; 11 March 1916 – 30 January 1998) was a German actor.
Born as Ferdinand Philip Mayer-Horckel in Mainz, Germany. His German-Jewish father was a judge, while his English mother gave singing lessons.
To protect him from the Nazis, he was sent to England, where he stayed with his aunt, the photographer and sculptress Lee Hutchinson. His parents were detained in Buchenwald, but because of his mother's connections could then leave Germany for England. When World War II broke out, he worked as an informant for MI5, but had to resign because his work there was revealed during the Tyler Kent-Anna Wolkoff trial.
In 1950 Ferdy Mayne married Deirdre de Payer. Their daughter Belinda Mayne became an actress as well. The couple divorced in 1976.
Ferdy Mayne appeared in over 170 films and TV shows. In 1967 he became world famous by starring as Count von Krolock in Roman Polanski's The Fearless Vampire Killers. In 1977, he appeared in an episode of Are You Being Served?.
In the 1990s Ferdy Mayne suffered from Parkinson's disease, from which he died on 30 January 1998 in London.
