Ferdinandea (Calabria)

Ferdinandea is an area of 3600 hectare in Serre Calabresi (Calabria, Italy) in the towns of Bivongi, Stilo, Brognaturo , Mongiana and Serra San Bruno in province of Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia. Ferdinandea is entirely covered by fir and beech woods.
The name take orign by Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies, he since 1832 used as hunting area, builindig his estate. Then was use as siderurgic center and built a foundry, a ferriera, residential and administrative buildings and stables.

The place was interesting by the industrial archeology view. Now the area is part of Ecomuseo delle ferriere e fonderie di Calabria. The buildings must be restored.[1]
