[edit] Concern over sutability of a part of the article

I am concerned about this part of the article:

"Feltham may gain new infamy by featuring on the HARD-Fi album, Stars of CCTV. The song gives a lovely description of life in Feltham, with appropriate references to above-mentioned institution!!!! Lyrics of "Feltham is singing out" at [link to copyvio website removed]"

I don't feel that it is encyclopedic at all, so any suggestions on what to do? -- Masterjamie 18:31, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Needs a copyedit "due to ill-considered planning" is POV, there is loads more. I've cleaned some but it also needs more work. MRSC 22:25, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

I've tried to re-write the article in a more encylopaedic style, but I know I've got a lot of learning still to do about Wikipedia conventions and etiquette. I haven't the time to do all that right now, but I trust I'm forgiven, and thanks to those who have done some of the minor edits. I didn't write all of the original article, of course, and can see that it still needs some more treatment, but it seems to me that it's better to have some loal input with more knowledge of the place, than the stereotypes that can so easily build up from others. Feltham today is becoming a much more pleasant place to live- indeed, I've returned here after fifteen years in Sussex- and it's more pleasant aspects are all too easily overlooked by association with the YOC. There's currently a local campaign going on to get the name of that changed, actually, as happened in nearby Ashford (Middlesex/Surrey), where the women's prison eventually became known as Bronzefield, giving on connection to the town at all. As to contested neutral POV on "ill-considered planning policies", I think I was only writing the sort of thing about the 1960s development that the revered Pevsner would have said, although I don't for one moment aspire to his status! In the 1940's,1950's and early 60's Feltham was properly known as the Urban District of Feltham.

The railway station had the largest marshalling yards in Europe attached to it and was consequently a popular target for the Luftwaffe during WW2 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 163.166.150.22 (talk • contribs) .

[edit] Views of Feltham and "rap battles" mention

I have removed the mention of "rap battles" as a myth. I have lived in Feltham my entire life, for the past 20 years, and have never seen any sign of this, despite using the train station very often. In truth, the stereotypical views mentioned (that Feltham contains many typical of the "chav" culture) is very much true, and indeed such things fit Feltham perfectly. However, this particular item is, to my knowledge, false. If someone with greater personal knowledge and experience of Feltham than myself can provide any evidence to the contrary then of course it should be replaced. ... but the place is basically a s**t-hole!

The current redevelopment may prove to less horrid than that of 40 years ago, but unless the residents want to put the effort in to make it a good place to live it will soon revert. With demographic changes as evidenced by census information I fear that it is likely that community spirit and community cohesion will continue to decline.

[edit] The Flavour of Feltham

I think that although this article is not in the style of an Encyclopaedia, it is that style that gives the flavour of the culture and living in Feltham. Yes it's a hole...but there's a lot going for it. Lahore Karahi has opened up there, some of the best food in London served there. Bollywood galore, you can have a well chilled beer, curry, entertainment, shopping (both new town centre and Tescos not far away). Terminal 5 is being built and there are bound to be lots of jobs.
