Felicia (フェリシア Ferishia?) is a video game character from the Darkstalkers or Vampire (in Japan) series of fighting games by Capcom. She is a catgirl with light skin tone, long, thick blue hair, white fur and pink or red claws, and a popular character.

According to her official biography, Felicia was born in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1967. This year was chosen possibly in reference to the poem "Curse of the Catwoman" by Edward Field, circa 1967. Her three sizes ("measurements") are 88 cm (35 in), 61 cm (24 in), and 87 cm (34 in). She likes singing, performing, and cats, and dislikes mean people. She has been voiced by Kae Araki throughout all her video game appearances.

[edit] Background

Felicia was raised by a Catholic nun named Rose. When Rose died, Felicia left her town hoping to be a musical star. During her travels, she met many other catgirls of her kind. With her newfound friends, she set out for her dream of being on stage. Eventually, she and her friends started a musical with Felicia being the main star.

In the events of Darkstalkers 3, she wondered about how she could make others happy. In her ending, Felicia became a nun herself and founded an orphanage named "Felicity House."

[edit] Felicia's Friends

When playing as Felicia, players are able to perform a special move that summons several other Cat-women to Felicia's aid. Although they are not named in the game at all, they each have unique origins and names. They are as follows:

  • Pico: A child with braided hair. Comes out when LK and MK is used for "Please Help Me". She is 14 years old (7 years old in the human age). Born in Minnesota, America. She used to live in an orphanage, but after she saw Felicia's stage performance, she left her orphanage to seek out Felicia. She found out she was a Cat-woman after she met Felicia. She is full of curiosity and fears nothing.
  • Alto: A child with a ribbon, she appears during "Dark Force". She is 20 years old (10 years in human age). It's unknown where she was born. She was kept as a rare pet by a rich man but escaped soon after. She briefly lived in a mountainous area, but was saved by Grace (See Below). She is very shy and afraid of strangers. She was named 'Alto' by Grace.
  • Nana and Mimi: These two Catgirls can be discerned by the ribbons they wear. They come out when MK and HK are used for "Please Help Me". 22 years old (11 years in human age). Born in Hong Kong and raised in Saitama, Japan. They were taken to Japan when they sneaked into a trade ship. They were raised by an understanding old couple. Both are very easy-going.
  • Nonno: Alias Tama. Appears during "Please Help Me" and Felicia's new victory pose. Friends with Nana, they became friends in the mountains located behind their house. Her age and background aren't clear. She likes to hide in balls and play.
  • Grace: Tall with a pony-tail. 48 years old(24 years in human age). Born in Utah, she is the guardian of Alto. She is incredibly skilled at donning a human appearance and can stay in that form the longest. She is like a mother to Alto and likes to take care of others.
  • Lucy: Tall one with a bandana. 36 years old(18 in human age). Born in Virginia, she used to work under a circus. When one of her few understanding human friends died of a sickness, she left the circus. While she was wandering, she met Felicia. She likes to make cynical remarks. She is the strongest out of the group.

[edit] Other appearances

[edit] Anime

The anime version of Felicia is shown as already having a certain amount of success as an entertainer and is just starting a tour in the human world with her own traveling show. However, her tour gets off to a rough start when she is almost killed by monks pertaining to an anti Darkstalker milita. (The world is shown as effectivily being under vampire Demitri Maximov's rule with various resistance groups opposing him.) She watches as soul reaver Lord Raptor saves her by promptly killing them all.

Later, as Pyron begins his bid for world domination, interest in Felicia's show dwindles and she petulantly vents her anger on Pyron's Huitzil army. She destroys a few of the robots before being overwhelmed and she is saved when Jon Talbain intervenes. She is taken in by a human doctor and is befriended by the local children but she is later captured by a paramilitary group who have come to destroy the rest of the advancing Huitzuls. The doctor rescues her and with her faith in humanity renewed she, along with Jon Talbain, lures the Huitzils out of the town using an explosives laden train; when out of the town, Felicia and Jon Talbain escape the train and explodes it, destroying the train and all the robots that had been following.

She is also seen fighting Victor in the third episode's intro.

A major difference between this Felicia and the game's Felicia is that there is no mention of her origin and her religiosity is reversed. While it can be assumed from her being raised by nuns and her entering a convent herself that the game Felicia is a good Catholic woman, her anime counterpart describes herself as being ambivilent to organized religion.

In the anime, she is voiced by Yukana Nogami {Japanese} and Janyse Jaud {English dub}.

[edit] UDON Comics

In the UDON Comics version of Darkstalkers, Felicia is still looking for her big break into stardom; unfortunately being a catgirl proves to be a very large roadblock on the path to fame. Along the way, she runs into the werewolf, Jon Talbain who believes that humans are treacherous and vile, while she thinks that the current hatred between humans and Darkstalkers are just a few "bumps in the road." Despite the fact that his interference costs her a potential gig, Felicia asks Jon to accompany her, so that she can try to prove to him that humanity is not all bad. Eventually, they end up at the Catholic orphanage where Felicia grew up.

Felicia's origins are much the same as well. One notable exception is the character of the nun who raised her. Here her foster mother is named Sister Cecillia and is still alive and active in her beloved foster daughter's life. Due to the comic book ending after only six issues, Felicia is never shown becoming a nun and entering a convent herself. Despite that--and despite her penchant for going about being nearly naked--it can be assumed from crosses in her apartment that she remains a good Catholic.

[edit] American Cartoon

Felicia was the main hero in the American cartoon series. Her voice actor was Janyse Jaud, as it was in the Japanese Anime English-dubbed version. She was perhaps the least altered, though (in accordance with American TV S&P) her breasts were considerably downsized and she appeared to be wearing a bra instead of patches of fur. She was accompanied by Harry Grimoire, a character created for this particular series whose purpose (aside from a plot device) was mainly to get Felicia into trouble. She's also stated to be several hundred years old in this version (in fact, she got stuck with Harry when she went looking for an ancestor of his), though at this point, she would technically be 28 since the show takes place in 1995. Her dreams of being a singer are never mentioned (although in the first episode she was fired from Cats because her "costume" was "out of date"). Felicia was also depicted as possibly being the last of her kind, despite having other catgirl friends in the game series itself.

[edit] Namco x Capcom

In Namco x Capcom, Felicia teams up with King II from Tekken. Of the several two-character teams in the game, this is the only one to include both a Namco character and a Capcom character. They have a single-unit Multiple Assault, the W Shining Wizard, and her Please Help Me is also a Multiple Assault with the added assistance of Armor King.

In this continuity, Sakura Kasugano is a huge fan of Felicia and is positively ecstatic about seeing her and asks the catwoman for an autograph.

[edit] Other Games

Felicia is also a playable character in Pocket Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Puzzle Fighter, Capcom Fighting Evolution, SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium and is a playable card in SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash, SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash 2 and Namco x Capcom. She is also a character card in the Universal Fighting System TCG.
