The Federal University of Uberlândia (in Portuguese Universidade Federal de Uberlândia; UFU) is the top high education institution in the southwest of Minas Gerais, Brazil. UFU ranks 13th among the best Brazilian universities, according to the Ministry of Education, who scrutinizes university graduates through a national exam.[1] The Brazilian publication Guia do Estudante currently ranks UFU as the 12th best university of the country.[2] It is a public university (and therefore it does not charge any tuition for the enrolled students) located in Uberlândia. The students are admitted through yearly exams, the vestibular.
As of 2008, UFU offers 33 different undergraduate degrees, including an extremely sought-after Medicine degree, more traditional options such as Law and Economics, plus a handful of Engineering and a wide array of Science and Art degrees. It also offers 10 PhD programs, 22 MSc programs, 34 diplomas and 21 medical residence programs.[3] Despite its late foundation, the Federal University of Uberlândia attracts students from all Brazilian regions and most of Latin American countries. It projected the city of Uberlândia to be nationally known as a university city.
