[edit] Nominating a new topic
- Check the featured topic criteria and make sure the topic meets all of them before nominating.
- Add the template {{FTCmain|ExampleTopicName}} to the talk page of the main article in the series. From there, click "leave comments".
- (If you are resubmitting an article) Use the Move button to rename the previous nomination sub-page to an archive. For example, Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Plays by Shakespeare → Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/Plays by Shakespeare/archive1. Then, change the name of the old nomination in the log.
- Add the following text to the new page making sure to change all of the example text. Include as many articles as you wish:

- Write your reason for nominating the topic below the heading, indicate which articles are Good Articles or Featured Articles/Lists, and save the sub-page.
- Place {{Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/ExampleTopicName}} at the top of the list of nominees by first copying the above, clicking "edit" on the top of the candidates page, and then pasting, making sure to add the name of the nominated topic. While adding a candidate, mention the name of the topic in the edit summary.
- Finally, add the template {{FTC|ExampleTopicName}} to the talk page of each member article to let the editors of those articles know about the nomination.

[edit] Adding new articles to an existing topic
- Check the featured topic criteria and make sure the new articles meet all of them before nominating.
- Create a new subpage at Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/ExampleTopicName/addition1.
- (If subpage already exists) Change /addition1 to /addition2 or whatever the next free number is.
- Add the following text to the new page making sure to change all of the example text. Include as many articles as you wish. In the last line (with the {{topicnom}} template), include both the existing topics and the new topics:

- Write your reason for nominating the new articles below the heading, and save the sub-page. Indicate which articles are Good Articles or Featured Articles/Lists.
- Place {{Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/EXAMPLE TOPIC NAME/addition1}} at the top of the list of nominees on WP:FTC by first copying the above, clicking "edit" on the top of that page, and then pasting, making sure to add the name of the nominated topic. Make sure to change /addition1 to whatever number you used. While adding a candidate, mention the name of the topic in the edit summary.
- Add the template {{FTCaddmain|ExampleTopicName|1}} to the talk page of the main article in the series, and {{FTCadd|ExampleTopicName|1}} to the talk page of each new member article. Replace the number 1 with the actual addition number. This lets the editors of those articles know about the nomination.
- Finally, go to the original archived discussion of the topic's successful nomination at Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/ExampleTopicName and add the following to the bottom of the page after the discussion (changing the number of the addition as needed):

- This last step is necessary because templates on articles' talk pages link to the original archived discussion of the topic's successful nomination, so it needs to have links to supplementary nominations to allow future editors to examine the evolution of the topic as a whole.
- Expanding the topic may require a name change of the topic itself. In this case, use the new name for the nomination, keep the old discussion on its original page, and add a redirect from the [[Wikipedia:Featured topic candidates/NEW TOPIC NAME]] page to the original. If the name change passes, change the template on the talk pages of every member article, new and old, to reflect the new name.

If you are unable to follow the above procedure, add your topic and its articles on this page's talk page and mention that you would like to submit it, but that you don't know how. If someone else likes it, they will add it.

[edit] If the topic is promoted:
- Move the discussion to the featured topic log
- Update the tallys on Template:Featured topic log
- Make a topic box at Wikipedia:Featured topics/ExampleTopicName using {{Featured topic box}}.
- Add a notice to Template:Announcements/New featured pages using [[Wikipedia:Featured topics/ExampleTopicName|ExampleTopicName]]
- Add a notice to Wikipedia:Goings-on using [[Wikipedia:Featured topics/ExampleTopicName|ExampleTopicName]]
- Add the topic to the random topic generator at Wikipedia:Featured content/Topics
- Add the topic to the featured topics main page, using {{Wikipedia:Featured topics/ExampleTopicName}}
- Update the total topic count at the Wikipedia:Featured topics/count.
- Add the {{Featuredtopicmain|ExampleTopicName}} template to the talk page of the main article of the topic and the {{Featuredtopic|ExampleTopicName}} template to the talk pages of member articles.
[edit] Supplementary promotions
To promote a supplementary nomination, you need only do #1, 2, 8, 9, and add the new articles to the topic box at Wikipedia:Featured topics/ExampleTopicName.
[edit] If the topic nomination fails:
- Move the discussion to the failed log
- Update the tallys on Template:Featured topic log
- Replace the {{FTC|ExampleTopicName}} and {{FTCmain|ExampleTopicName}} templates in the talk pages of member articles with {{FTCfailed|ExampleTopicName}}.
