- Oppose Strongly. For a start, the final sentence of the lead paragraph asserts a reason why Moses didn't get into Canaan; yet I know that the reason is actually highly disputed among both academics and theologians - several, for example, claim that its actually his anger and the smashing of the "first" set of tablets that's to blame. Then there's the bit about his name - no citations, and little explanation of where the support for each idea comes from; for example, the "son of water" explanation is very contrived, as it would also fit Ra-messes as well (as "Ra, son of water"), yet it seems designed to avoid the conclusion that its a "[deity]-messes" type name. It also mentions the Hobab/Raguel/Jethro naming of his father in law, yet doesn't provide even a modicum of a hint about the reasons that scholars believe there are three different names. It seems very uncritical; the academic view of moses is restricted to two paragraphs, despite the vast size of the rest of the article. And why is the academic view distinguished from that of Freud? Why is there no mention of him being the father of Jonathan (a figure in the latter part of Judges, rather than Jonathan), a detail obscured by a scribal insertion of a single letter above the line, a spelling found nowhere else? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Clinkophonist (talk • contribs) 17:23, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
