[edit] Lewis Hamilton
I'm nominating this article for featured article because I feel that this article is written to a high standard of english and is lengthy and yet still to the point and concise as described inWikipedia:Featured_article_criteria.

- Concensus Withdrawl FAC No Need to continue. Perhaps I just got the wrong end of the stick. Thanks for your help of everyone above and with this level of scrutinty and oversight I think Wikipedia is in safe hands. I will endeavor to use this information you have passed on and understand everyones' feelings about drive-by-nominations, to which I am guilty as charged. Thank you to Mr Davies for alternative suggestions.-- MESSAGE ENDS --. PheonixRMB (talk) 16:39, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose because his career is still active i don't think it can be fully comprehensive --Hadseys 22:02, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

- Comment There isnt any guidlines suggesting you should be retired, could you elaborate further? For instance I nominated him based on how good the article is, his acheivements so far and the notability of some of the comments from other drivers (ie Michael Schumacher). Other than that you do have fair comment PheonixRMB (talk) 22:30, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

- It's just that one of my FAC's got rejected because the person was still in office --Hadseys 10:35, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Oppose - I don't care that he is an active driver. I do care, though, that the article seems rushed here. I'll list some problems below.
- Numerous one and two-sentence paragraphs. Surely most of these can be combined or expanded.
- One of the aforementioned single-sentence paragraphs is opening the lead, leading me to believe that the lead should be expanded. I don't see anything from Personal and early life in the lead, a violation of criterion 2a, which states that the lead should summarize the topic.
- Inconsistent reference formatting, a violation of 2c. Retrival dates are given in a few different ways, and a couple refs are bare links with no publisher information. I also see a couple other formatting errors.
- Current reference 41 has an unreliable source tag. Things like this should always be taken care of before coming here. I also see other questionable sources, which I'm sure Ealdgyth will comment on further.
- A massive number of books listed here. Why are none of them used as sources? It's certainly not a requirement, but they may contain additional information that could be useful.
- Taking a quick look at the prose: "After winning the British Formula Renault, European Formula Three and GP2 championship" Aren't three titles plural, meaning "championships"? Very long sentence following this; I would make the semi-colon a period to break it up.
- Personal and early life: Three straight paragraphs start with Hamilton. The last two start with dates. Can some variation please be added? Remember that the prose has to be "engaging, even brilliant" per criterion 1a.
I don't think this should be here yet, as I'm finding a lot of major issues early on. It needs a lot of work to become featured in this candidacy. Giants2008 (talk) 23:22, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

- Current ref 27 "Race notes Spanish GP" is lacking publication date and/or last access date.
- Current ref 35 "No Penalty for Hamilton..." is lacking publisher
- Current ref 41 "F1 ace Hamilton signs a multi-million pound..." is lacking all bibliographic information needed for WP:V
- Current ref 58 "Collantine, Keith, "Raikkonen leads..." is lacking a publisher
- Current ref 61 "The Official Fomrula 1 Website" is lacking publisher, and last access date. Also, the title appears a bit off, I think it's "FIA to launch anti-racism initiative"
- Otherwise sources look okay. Several sites are showing deadlinking with the link checking tool, please double check them. Ealdgyth - Talk 03:00, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

- Oppose
- Not a bad article by a long way, but still plenty of work to do for FA status
- Problems with ref 41 already raised above. But surely massively out of date too? Has the book not been published? Also if you look its a random out of place fact in the middle of an F1 season summary.
- "Other Formula One drivers, including world champions Michael Schumacher, Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso, also live in Switzerland.[11]" My thought while reading it was 'so??'
- Noticed one "couldn't" - change to 'could not' and check for other such abbreviations
- Intro says he is "British Mixed-Race" - later link to "Blacks" - which is inconsistent and the latter is a disambig.
- Overall writing could be tighter. e.g:
- "He has stated that he wants to stay in the McLaren team for the rest of his F1 career" could be "He has stated that he wants to stay at McLaren for the rest of his F1 career"
- "His Mercedes-Benz was also impounded." a 6 word sentence which could be incorporated into prev.
- "In January 2008, Hamilton signed a new 5-year multi-million pound contract" - Is a one sentence paragraph. Not ideal. Saying its 5 year and until 2012 is redundant, just say in jan 2008 he extended his contract to 2012. Also "multi-million" is vague, do we not know the exact figure? Even a reliable source estimation, e.g. from one of the UK broadsheets would be useful.
- Unnecessary links maybe. pitlane? pitstop?
- " did not start well for Hamilton" or "after getting off to a bad start " - just describe the event (i.e. had a huge crash in practice/lost 5 places by the first corner etc.), leave the reader to decide what's good/bad.
- Overlinking. Just link 1st instance - Nürburgring (2) Ferrari (3) Alonso (5) Kimi (5) Schumacher (3) FIA (3) Williams (3) Silverstone (3) Rosberg (2). These just a few I spotted, check for more. Mark83 (talk) 17:59, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
I just noticed that the nominator had not made any edits to the article prior to placing it here, according to the edit counter. Phoenix made one edit to remove a second infobox, but I don't see any of the issues raised here being addressed. Hamilton's talk page has no messages notifying regular contributors of the impending FAC, and there are no messages on any relevant project pages. I'm starting to question whether this is a drive-by nomination. Giants2008 (talk) 03:45, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Comment Unless any of the principal editors or the nominator object, this article seems appropriate for withdrawal as a premature nomination. --ROGER DAVIES talk 16:09, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
