Featherston Administration

The Featherston Administration is a fictional totalitarian regime in the American South in Harry Turtledove's American Empire and Settling Accounts novels.

In these books, the Confederate States of America won the American Civil War and a follow-up conflict (the Second Mexican War) with the USA, only to lose World War I. Mirroring the history of Germany in the Weimar Republic period, a fascistic movement rose to power in the CSA under the leadership of Jake Featherston, who was elected president in November 1933.

Featherston's Freedom Party took control over Confederate politics and society, oppressing political opponents and blacks. Under Featherston's leadership, the CSA started World War II in North America by launching a surprise attack on the USA.

Ultimately, Featherston's CSA lost the war, and Featherston himself was gunned down while fleeing to the Deep South in early July 1944. His Vice President, Donald Partridge, surrendered the country to the United States, and the Confederate States ceased to exist.
