Fe del Valle

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fe del Valle was a Cuban civil rights activist, who was famous for her managerial role in El Encanto Shopping Center, located in the heart of Havana[1]. She died in a so-called CIA backed terrorist attack on the El Encanto shopping center [1]. Her death provoked popular indignation, especially since this had to do with a woman identified with bringing revolution[1]. After El Encanto was nationalized, Fe del Valle rapidly became the organizer of all of the department store's activities[1]. After offering her experience in the management of the store, del Valle, or Lula (as she was known more commonly) became one of the founders of the National Revolutionary Militias and the organizer of the center's Federation of Cuban Women delegation[1]. Just before her death, she was organizing the construction of a day care center on the roof of the building[1]. This was to serve the children of the store's 1,000 employees - workers who were predominantly woman[1]. A park, Fe del Valle's Park, has been named after her.
