[edit] Welcome!
|
Hi there FCSundae
Just wanted to say that your approach to User:Melrosechoc's edits, and your message on his/her talk page, were absolutely spot on, and a really good example of how to greet and encourage a good-faith newcomer whose edits aren't exactly within guidelines but whose intention is to improve articles. It is so easy to WP:Bite newcomers and I'm sure we lose a lot of potentially good contributors because their first encounter with other editors is hostile or unsupportive.
I notice you're having fun chasing and reverting vandals, which I also enjoy. But maybe you'd be interested in welcoming new users too, while you're at it? When you come across users like User:Melrosechoc you can easily give them a formal welcome to the project and some helpful links too. Joining the WP:Welcoming committee doesn't need an invitation, and it doesn't involve any commitments or any special privileges; it just means you like to encourage new users when you come across them, not frighten them away. There's a selection of welcome templates you can copy and paste to their talk page, just as User:Gimme danger has done here for you, and you can use them on their own or in conjunction with a personal message when you come across someone new who hasn't been welcomed yet. See here, if you haven't found it already, for a collection of templates that can be used in user talkspace, including all the welcome templates.
If you do decide to be a welcomer, there's a userbox you can display on your user page if you wish (see my userpage for an example), and a list of welcoming committee members to which you can add your name. Just make sure you've read WP:Welcoming committee thoroughly and understand the section on welcoming etiquette.
Best wishes, and thanks again for being so helpful to a new user. -- Karenjc 11:05, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your responses to Melrosechoc and me! I've been hesitant mainly in welcoming new users, since I'm so new myself. But I know how nice it was when I was welcomed, so maybe I'll try to find a template I can use to give helpful information while confessing that I myself don't know much about it yet. I just spotted another editor who's about to be blocked for what I think are just really bad good faith edits (which he continued to make after repeated warnings, so maybe not so good faith), so I'll give it a try. [edit] RE: Lev Yilmaz
Per your request, I've moved the article to your userspace so that you can improve it before moving it back to the main article space. It is now located at User:FCSundae/L E V. - Rjd0060 (talk) 00:13, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Mistake
Excuse me Mr but you seem to have mistakenly deleted the edit i made to Belgrave.
Please do not make this mistake and waste my time again
Regards.
[edit] Yet another mistake
Mr you have incorrectly edited the Belgrave article yet again. I am starting to question whether you are a form of vandalism account. One more time and I will follow this up with wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimingy (talk • contribs) 12:04, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Tube map
Hi FCSundae - Mars black is a real colour (as an artist I use it quite often - see here for some info). I'm pretty sure you were right with this rollback] though - "Labour red" and "Drainy orange" both sound a bit suss. Grutness...wha? 12:48, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Minor quibble
Nice work on the anti-vandalism front! One small quibble: generally the m minor edit flag is reserved for changes that no-one could possibly object to (e.g obvious spelling errors or clear-cut vandalism). But a few of your edits, such as reverting possibly true but unsourced material [1] or extensive edits for POV [2], go beyond what usually counts as minor. Check out Help:Minor edit. Gordonofcartoon (talk) 16:27, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip! Both of those were caused due to over-reliance on Twinkle's "restore this version" button, which I'd forgotten always marks edits as minor. The Kevin James edit should obviously not have been minor, though I didn't realize at the time what a hornet's nest that article was about to turn into. And I'll try not to use Twinkle for edits like the Norman Sperling one too. That IS vandalism by the way, it's the work of a subtle vandal who also made this edit (and others) to Reliability of Wikipedia. I had to go through all his other edits and check them and this one definitely checked out as false. But you're right, of course: The fact that I had to go to Google and Google News and check it means it's not minor. I'll resist Twinkle in such cases, though it is very nice! Thanks for catching the vandalism of my page. I have no involvement with any 2008 presidential candidate, was never a lobbyist, and have not heard of being in the NY Times. The political stuff is entirely false. 76.14.32.85 (talk) 21:24, 20 May 2008 (UTC) Norman Sperling nsperling@california.com
[edit] New Focus at Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles
The Invisible Barnstar | ||
Thank you for your continued work and assistance on Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles, referencing and generally cleaning up articles that have needed attention for a long time. Your good work goes unseen unless someone disagrees ;) Jeepday (talk) 12:07, 28 May 2008 (UTC) |
The huge set of unreferenced articles from June of 2006 is finally completed. Thank you for your contributions. The new focus at Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles is Category:Articles lacking sources from July 2006 which as of May 28 is only 1,322 articles and should go much quicker. Thank you to everyone who has contributed and listed themselves as a volunteer. Jeepday (talk) 12:07, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
