JACKSON HOLE CONSERVATION ALLIANCE

Who We Are:

As one of the oldest and largest membership organizations in Jackson Hole, the Conservation Alliance is a respected voice for conservation throughout the southern Yellowstone region. The non-profit is known for providing accurate, well-researched information to the public, as well as for organizing and encouraging public participation at the local, state, and federal levels. For more than 27 years, the Alliance has played a major role in local and federal decision-making processes that affect the ecosystem. The Conservation Alliance has consistently, and uniquely, engaged citizens to fight for what makes Jackson Hole special; its community, abundant wildlife, and the endless values afforded from adjacent public lands. With the efforts of the Conservation Alliance, and the other citizens that Jackson Hole, Wyoming has retained its rare and extraordinary environment. The heart of the Conservation Alliance’s work is based in stewardship; inspiring citizens to give back to, and defend, a place that gives so much to them.

Some Accomplishments of the Conservation Alliance: • Unleashed a Forest Protection Campaign (which included a GIS mapping project) aimed at long-term preservation of vulnerable areas of the Bridger-Teton National Forest critical to wildlife and its protection. • Launched a Wild and Scenic Rivers campaign with a broad cross-section of river users, anglers, kayakers, floaters, local businesses and wildlife groups to protect over 400 miles of streams within the headwaters of the Snake River. • Worked with citizens to halt a proposed Snake River Dam that would have flooded Grand Teton National Park’s world-renowned Oxbow Bend. • Actively promoted responsible development for over two decades in Jackson, WY. • Introduced and obtained Teton County approval of regulations prohibiting the operation of commercial scenic helicopter tours from private property into wilderness areas and crucial wildlife habitat. • Promoted environmentally friendly road construction alternatives that would minimize impacts to the Hoback River. WYDOT delayed construction until 2014 to explore alternative technologies, as proposed by our consultants. • Influenced the National Forest Service to say “No” to proposed oil and gas development on hundreds of thousands of acres surrounding Jackson Hole that comprise critical wildlife habitat.

Mission: The Jackson Hole Conservation Alliance is dedicated to responsible land stewardship in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to ensure that human activities are in harmony with the area's irreplaceable wildlife, scenic, and other natural resources.
