FC St. Gallen is a Swiss football club based in the city of St. Gallen in the canton of the same name. It was founded in 1879 making it the oldest football club in Switzerland. A new stadium facility called the "AFG Arena" is being built in the western part of the city and is scheduled to open in 2008, replacing the existing "Espenmoos" ground in the east end. The club is proud to be the second oldest club in Continental Europe, founded in 1879.
[edit] 2007/2008 season
FC St. Gallen turned to 41-year-old former Bulgaria midfielder Krasimir Balakov to take over from Rolf Fringer following his sacking in October 2007. He joined the bottom-placed team and signed a contract until the end of the season after having parted company with their Swiss rivals Grasshopper-Club at the end of the 2006-2007 season.
