FC Progresul Bucureşti is a Romanian football club playing in Liga II. Despite having long resided in the shadow of the three big Bucharest teams (Steaua, Dinamo and Rapid), the club has recently achieved some good results, having thrice finished runners up in the top league (in 1996, 97 and 2002), in each case finishing behind one of its Bucharest rivals.
One of the biggest successes was elimination of Serbian side Partizan Belgrade in UEFA Cup competition in late 1990s.
The team won the Romanian Cup in 1960 and played another 4 finals in 1958, 1997, 2003 and 2006.
The 2004/2005 saw the team leading the league for a while early in the season, and though the form weakened National still managed to finish 4th, only just missing out on the chance to compete in the UEFA Cup to rivals Rapid Bucureşti.The finished 5th in the 2005-2006 season, and surprinsingly relegated to Divizia B at the end of the 2006-07 season, finishing 16th out of 18 teams. As of 2008,they are stuck in mid table.
