The FC Gland, formerly known as Etoile FC Gland (etoile is the french word for star), or l'Etoile Sportive (french for Sporting star) is a sports club located in Gland, Switzerland. The club is best known for its Soccer team.
FC Gland plays in the 5th level of the Swiss Football League, more precisely in the ACVF which stands for Association Cantonale Vaudoise de Football.

[edit] History of the club
The club was created in the end of October 1920 by a group of eleven young sportsmen: Alfred Blonay, Jean Bottin, Charles Caboussat, Maurice Heimberg, Haeberli, Albert Jonzier, Charles Mosetti, Daniel Mosetti, Emile Mosetti, and Jules Muston. At that time the club was known as l'Etoile sportive FC with Alfred Blonay as President, Jean Bottin as secretary, and Emile Mosetti was the accountant. The team played its first Exhibition game against a local team and lost 3-1.

[edit] 1921 to 1925
Between 1921 and 1925 the team is ranked 1st in the Championat du Léman (Regional League), FC Gland was undefeated during the whole season. After a couple of years of inactivity, in 1933 the clubs changes its name to the FC Gland (current name).

A key event in 1936 in the history of the club is the arrival of the Rih's brothers.

Once again, the team is champion of the Regional Championship with a victory of 7-0 against Malley II. The team is sacred regional champion again for the season 1937-1938 and is promoted the upper III league, then promoted to the II league the next year. In 1939, the club is awarded with the Roman Champion Cup (national cup) of the III league by beating Malley 3-2.
1939-1944: FC Gland plays in the very competitive II league, but the team is demoted to the IV league for financial reasons in 1944, and is promoted to the III league again the next year.
In 1947, the team moves to the II league again. FC Gland remained very competitive, but because of the lack of new outstanding players, the team is relegated to the III league in 1953.

The team is back on track and continues to play games alternatively between the league III and league II.
But in the 1978-1979, for the first time in its history the FC Gland plays a promotion game for the I league (the highest).
After a tough and memorable game, FC is defeated 1-2 against Guin. A second chance arose in 1982, but then again Gland was defeated in the penalty kick session.
In 1971, in order to comply with the gender equity standards, the FC Gland girls team is formed with the combined efforts of the president Lecoultre and the FC Gland comity.
Once again, in 1983 (and in 1987)a new opportunity to be promoted to the First League comes, but like the two previous times FC Gland is defeated and is constrained to play in the Second League.
In 1996, FC is offered one more chance to be promoted to the First League; this time this opportunity is seized, the team trained by the notable coach Arpad SOOS is promoted for the first time in its history to the first League. The team finished second to last (is demoted to the 2nd league), but it was a memorable season as it was the first time the team participated in the first league.
In the following years, the team remains constant in its results and we see the rise of the second team, and an important ascension of young players in the junior section.

1945: Champions of their group in the IVth league, promoted the upper division.

1960: Champions of their group in the IIIrd league, promoted to upper division.
1970: Champions of their group in the IVth league.
1978: Champions of their group in the IIIrd league, promoted to upper division.
1979: Champions of their group in the IInd league.
1983, 1987, 1989: Champions of their group in the IIIrd league.
1996: Champions of their group in the IInd league, Promoted to Ist league.
