FC CSKA Kiev (Ukrainian: "ЦСКА" Київ) is a Ukrainian professional football club from Kiev, currently playing in the Ukrainian First League.
CSKA Kiev was founded in 1934 in Kharkiv under the name UVO Kharkiv. In 1935 the team moved to Kiev and renamed to BO (Budynok ofitseriv) Kyiv. In 1947-1956 the team was called OBО Kiev and in 1952, under this name, the team reached the semifinal stage of Soviet National Cup. in 1957 the team played under the name ОSК Kiev, in 1957-1959 – SКVО Kyiv, in 1960-1971 – SKA Kiev.
In 1972 the team moved to Chernihiv and did not have a name other than the Chernigiv's team. In 1976, it returned to Kiev. In 1981-1982, the team had had its last Pervaya Liga stint at the second level of Soviet football. In 1993 team changed its name to ZS - Oriana (Armed Forces - Oriana) and then to CSK ZSU (Central Sport Klub of Armed Forces of Ukraine). The highest place it reached in the Ukrainian championships was the fifth in the First League.
In the mid 90s a lot of football franchises in Ukraine went through all kinds of "shady" transactions: FC Metalurh Donetsk, FC Arsenal Kyiv, FC Shakhtar-2 Donetsk, and many others. Rearrangement of the Ukrainian Second League also played a big role in creating this confusion which brought all kinds of new and successful franchises out of nowhere. Such strange substitution keep on happening in case of the new FC Lviv, FC Spartak Ivano-Frankivsk, and FC Podillya Khmelnytskiy. They directly contradict the rules of the Fair Play.
- In 1994 CSKA Kiev while being in the Third League, but gaining promotion to the Second League (by default), merged with Borysfen Boryspil which gained the promotion to the First League and became CSKA-Borysfen Kiev taking Borysfen Boryspil place in the Ukrainian First League(Promoted to Ukrainian Premier League for the 1995/96 season)
- FC CSKA Kiev was kept as the Borysfen's reserve team in lower leagues.
- In 1995 a lot of players got transferred to the more successful, but going through financial difficulties, club at this time "FK CSKA-Borysfen". FC CSKA Kiev soon were promoted to the First League for the 1996/97 season where they have been ever since.
- In 1996 till 2001 CSKA-Borysfen Kiev was using the name CSKA Kiev because the partnership was discontinued with Borysfen and the "real" CSKA Kiev was known as CSKA-2 Kiev (as it was virtually the reserve team).
- FC Borysfen continued its operations from 1996/1997 season as a separate club the Amateur League and gaining prfessional status once again few years later.
- In 2002 on the base of that pseudo CSKA (the Former CSKA-Borysfen Kiev) was reestablished as the new Kievan club "FC Arsenal" under the official municipal ownership as the team lost its military sponsorship and, in turn, CSKA-2 Kiev regained its name of CSKA Kiev.
Colours are red shirts and shorts. The club colors are red and black.
