[edit] WP:Films Welcome
Hey, welcome to the Films WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of films and film characters. If you haven't already, please add {{User WikiProject Films}} to your user page.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Most of our important discussions about the project itself and its related articles take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has a monthly newsletter. The newsletter for January has been published. February's issue is currently in production; it will be delivered as a link, but several other formats are available.
There is a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Want to jump right into editing? The style guidelines show things you should include.
- Want to assist in some current backlogs within the project? Visit the Film Tasks template to see how you can help.
- Want to know how good our articles are? Our assessment department has rated the quality of every film article in Wikipedia. Check it out!
- Want to collaborate on articles? The Cinema Collaboration of the Week picks an article every week to work on together.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Nehrams2020 20:47, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
|
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.
P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot 09:05, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Harry Potter
Glad to see i am not the only Harry potter crazed fanf you could look at what I wrote under the discussion page of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows about Professor Snape. It may seem silly but it is one of my many theories about the seventh book. Thanks a lot. Mamamia2 02:04, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] ABright5
I have updated the narnia pages to fulfill section 4 of the newsletter:
- Add characters and bios to minor character draft page.
- Expand Narnia stubs.
- Place links to the Narnia Portal on article pages by using {{portal|Narnia}}.
- Add the stub template {{Narnia-stub}} to articles in the category Category:Stub-Class Narnia articles so that there are the same number of articles in Category:The Chronicles of Narnia stubs.
- Link the first mention of a year in all Narnia-related articles to Narnian timeline.
- Rewrite character articles to use the Narnian character example article format.
- Adopt an article and improve it to the best of your ability.
- Wikify The Chronicles of Narnia article, especially the new lead and Narnian Universe sections

[edit] Looking to expand HP on Wikipedia
Hey. Thanks for your welcome message. I have only recently joined wikipedia and am eager to contribute to the HP content. If you could send me a quick message about what is most needed, what not to do, et cetera, it would be great.
Thanks a lot,
SJJTITAN, March 12, 2007
[edit] Just wondering..
I was just wondering what the positive/negative numbers shown for each of the stories on my watchlist mean? eg: (+172) is shown at the end of the story I contributed to about the Creevey brothers.

[edit] Narnia
Yeah, I did some minor citation hunting for it too. I know it's used, I have a friend who refers to anybody he thinks is secretly gay as being Narnian. If I can't find a source, I'll remove it myself, though :) ~ZytheTalk to me! 13:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Academy Awards
Hello. Thanks for your message on my talk page regarding my revert at Academy Award, disputing that Titanic is the "most successful" film at the Oscars. I really appreciate your input and feedback. In fact, I am new to Wikipedia and was not even aware that I was able to receive personalized input/feedback on my talk page. Yours was the first! I wanted to reply to your message at my talk page -- but I could not figure out how to do so. (Can you enlighten me on how one does that?) I ended up going to your talk page, where you had a link that said "leave a message for me here." If not for that direct message, I would not have known how to reply to your post on my talk page. As far as the Academy Award revert: I found that the edit summary line was too short, and I could not say all that I wanted to say. So, I was forced to abbreviate my thoughts. But, first, I felt that all of the information was redundant to the article -- as it was ALL contained, in some form or another, in the Trivia section. Second, I do not believe that there are mathematical or statistical ways to deem a film's Oscar record as "the most successful." If anything, yes -- it would be the film where x/y = 100% and where x (and y) are the largest numbers. Thus, in plain English, the "most successful" film would be the film with the greatest number of nominations that has, in turn, won all of those nominations. (Ultimately, I do not agree even with that mathematical summary of "most successful.") I merely used the Lord of the Rings example in my edit summary line because the previous post specifically mentioned the film. I thought it ironic that the previous poster specifically (and unilaterally) deemed Titanic to be "more successful" than Lord of the Rings -- when one could easily argue vice versa. I am glad that you can appreciate that his logic was flawed, by use of his own "supporting" example. Thanks again! Please get back to me on the question of how do I directly respond to a posting on my talk page. Thanks. (JosephASpadaro 04:16, 17 March 2007 (UTC))
[edit] 2 Questions
Hello. Thanks for your reply at my talk page. I do have two questions for you. (Question 1) You already know that I deleted the "Titanic is the most successful film in Oscar history paragraph" from the Academy Awards article. However, the original poster subsequently put that paragraph back in. That poster does not seem to "get it." So, I started a discussion on this topic at the Academy Awards talk page. I was wondering if you could weigh in on the discussion there, and add your two cents there (as opposed to just letting me personally know your stand on this topic)? I don't want the original poster to think that I am personally attacking him. But I do want that individual to see the illogical argument that he is putting forth. I hope also that others on Wikipedia will weigh in on the "debate" (if there even is a debate). The more support I have for my stance, the less likely will be that the original poster takes personal offense at the deletion. Thanks. (Question 2) You said that, in order to reply to you at my talk page, I would simply hit the "edit this page" tab. But, I am confused. If I edit my own talk page, how would YOU ever see my response to you? Would my response to you somehow make its way onto YOUR talk page? Or do you have to come back to MY talk page and check if I ever edited it (by replying to you)? The latter way seems like a silly (and indirect) way to reply to someone. So, I am confused. Is that how Wikipedia works? Any clarification would help. Thanks! (JosephASpadaro 15:50, 17 March 2007 (UTC))
[edit] Thanks
Hi -- thanks for piping in with your comments on the Academy Award debate. And, also for filling me in on how the Talk Page replies work. It seems inefficient that YOU would have to keep checking MY page, to see when and if I ever reply to you. But, my mindset is probably aligned with email systems, and not talk threads. Thanks! (JosephASpadaro 12:28, 18 March 2007 (UTC))

Thank you for clarifying that. I couldn't find any mention of her on the site, so I wasn't sure if she was an owner or simply a deeply involved member. I've restored the redirect.—WAvegetarian (talk) 03:12, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Revived discussion concerning fair use in portals
I am contacting everyone who participated in the discussion that became inactive in December. Due to the length of the previous discussion, I have proposed a new amendment and you like you to weigh in so that we may actually have a consensus on this matter as it doesn't seem there exists one either way. -ΖαππερΝαππερ BabelAlexandria

You may want to add something in the "From the founder" box here. I'm thinking of an Article of the month and also whether we should have an April Fool's joke in there. ;) --The preceding comment was signed by User:Sp3000 (talk•contribs) 10:00, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
