Professor Fazlul Halim Chowdhury (1 August 19309 April 1996) was the longest-serving (1976-1983) Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Bangladesh. Born on 1 August 1930 to a respectable family of Comilla Chouddagram, his father the late Abdul Aziz Chowdhurywas a graduate from Aligarh University, and an educationist who served as a Teacher of Government High School and later as an Inspector of schools. Professor Chowdhury's mother late Afifa Khatun, a highly devoted and committed woman to the cause of education was widely known in the then village of Chouddagram.

He made pioneering contribution to the development of Physical Chemists in the country. Published over 20 articles. Major fields: Physical Chemistry of cellulose fibers (of jute in particular) and polyelectrolytes; and the Physical Chemistry of proteins. Guided number of Ph.D. theses.
