Welcome!

Hello, Faustus37/Archives2007/December, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at the Guide to layout, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.

Additional tips:
Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
  • Full details on Wikipedia style can be found in the Manual of Style.
Happy editing!

Another welcome

From another native Idahoan -- welcome to Wiki! --Boisemedia 06:41, May 29, 2005 (UTC)

Perrine

If you've got an image of the Perrine that's public domain, that would make a nice addition to the article. Also, I see someone has written a umm "article" at Snake River Canyon...if you've got information worth putting into an article, that'd be grand. My experience really is limited to hiking out of the canyon at Perrine. Cheers. Tomer TALK 20:28, August 17, 2005 (UTC)

Masonic Lodge entry

Please note that the spelling of Antient in the Masonic Lodge entry is correct, according to the Constitutions of the United Grand Lodge of England; a copy of which I have open on my desk at the moment. Please also note that a number of your edits of today are specifically US oriented which I would endeavour to generalise, it is worth reviewing the talk page as there is a degree of duplication which it was previously agreed was inappropriate and had been removed.ALR 20:16, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

I've had a go at the York Rite entry, it needs some refinement and I need to find my copy of Jacksons 'Beyond the Craft' to fill out some detail. In the Masonic Lodge entry I've added some terminology points, I think that the Organization and Appendant Bodies sections are covered adequately in the main Freemasonry entry. With respect to membership in many countries all members are voting members and can hold office, the only restriction on EA and FC is that they are required to retire from the lodge before it is passed or raised.ALR 21:21, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
It's looking much improved, a lot of benefit from the structural work you did earlier.ALR 23:20, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Job's Daughters entries

I've noticed you've added to the list of Freemasonry related articles substantially. However, some of what you've got posted is too short for Wikipedia purposes, and your entry for Bethel is really only a dictionary definition. Unless you can come up with more than a few lines on it, it's probably going to be transwikied to Wiktionary as a dictionary entry. Frankly, I think a lot of it should be merged in to the Job's Daughter's entry, because everything does not have to have an entry just because it exists. An encycolpedic entry presupposes a lot of available information. MSJapan 14:26, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

County seats

No problem, I'm going to do some of the smaller states, New York, and Wisconsin as soon as I can. I noticed your userboxes looked alot like mine would if I took the time to add them. Amerika 22:20, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Deist wikipedian

I noticed you are on the category of "Deist wikipedians". That template has been deleted, but here is what you can put on your userpage:

dei This user is a Deist.

Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 3% for major edits and 4% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 18:00, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for asking, but I don't think I have time for it right now. If that changes I'll get in touch.

Wikiproject Idaho

I'm pretty busy. But One thing I might be able to contribute is that I am beginning to search for public domain images on Flickr and ask the photographer if I can use their image on Wikipedia. For example, I am getting an image of the Patsy Clark Mansion in Spokane this way. If someone would alert me to images they need I could search for them. --cda 23:38, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Idaho school template - location concerns

Faustus37 - you've worked diligently on Idaho articles and I note that you are the creator of the {{IdahoSchool}} template. I have concerns about the specific information included in the Location field. See Template talk:IdahoSchool for my comments. —ERcheck @ 02:16, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

  • I noticed you made the change in the Idaho school template. I appreciate that you gave consideration to my comments. —ERcheck @ 03:44, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I've made a comment on the {{IdahoSchool}} Template discussion page recommending switching to the {{School}} Template. The Idaho School template is less readable, and does not improve on the School template. Furthermore, the School Template will have more widespread support throughout Wikipedia and its' users. I have modified the Minico High School page to demonstrate how to use the School Template to add the IHSAA information that is in IdahoSchool. Thanks for the contributions you have made, I hope you do not mind my minor critique! Feedmeastraycat

Fair use rationale for Image:Billsali.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Billsali.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Succession boxes

Succession boxes have the years which people served in office, which is typically buried within the article. Furthermore, the standard convention on Wikipedia is to have the succession boxes even if there is already a template like the one for Secretary of the Interior. See every other Secretary of the Interior article, or Secretary of Defense, or President of the USA, etc, etc, for example. --tomf688 (talk - email) 20:01, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging for Image:Twinfallsflag.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Twinfallsflag.gif. However, the copyright tag you've used is deprecated or obsolete, and should not be used. This could be because the tag is inaccurate or misleading, or because it does not adequately specify the copyright status of the image. For a list of copyright tags that are in current use, see the "Public domain", "Free license", and "Fair use" sections of Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.

==Minor Edits== Remember to mark your edits as minor only when they genuinely are (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). "The rule of thumb is that an edit of a page that is spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as a 'minor edit'." Tuspm 23:58, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

City Infobox Template

I fixed it again. It works so now we do not need to change it again. --No1lakersfan 02:11, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Map Size on Infobox City

Please see my note on the talk page. I went and fixed a few of Idaho's cities to manually specify the width. To avoid additional resizing of the Idaho map (which can distort some of the lines) the ideal width is 197px - the original width of the image. Changing the map width on the cities in Idaho is much quicker than checking all 1,000+ pages using the template to verify that the map still looks okay at whatever new width we might pick :). Happy editing! —Jnk[talk] 03:33, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

I Have tried some of the maps in Virginia and I can get them down to 150px, but then some of the small towns do not look good. I will stick with 200px, so that every locality on the map shows up well. --No1lakersfan 11:32, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Image:Joesakic.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Joesakic.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Please do not upload still images in the GIF format

Hello and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you've uploaded a number of still images in the GIF format. In the future, please save GIF images in the PNG format before uploading (see Wikipedia:Preparing images for upload). PNG images almost always have a smaller file size, which decreases the amount of time they take to load. There are a bunch of other advantages to the PNG format such as lossless compression that you can read about on its Wikipedia article. —Remember the dot (t) 23:28, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Nonsense of Cambridge High School (New Zealand)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Cambridge High School (New Zealand), by Lobbuss (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Cambridge High School (New Zealand) provides no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Cambridge High School (New Zealand), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 21:13, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Snake River High School

A tag has been placed on Snake River High School, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Orphaned non-free image (Image:Murraycook.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Murraycook.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Southidahopress.PNG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Southidahopress.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Timesnewsidaho.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:Timesnewsidaho.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 18:47, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is however another Wikimedia foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading media there instead. That way, all the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!

Comments & Observations

  1. Okay, i noticed you did a article called :Editing People from Idaho. I had 2 choices, one was to move it, but the best choice was a speedy deletion. I invite you to check out WP:Category. It might help you to categorize articles.
  1. Your talk page is quite long. I am a strong believer in archiving pages. If you want, i can help in setting up a nice archive... It will greatly shorten your talk page while maintaing the quality of your wikipedia experience.

ISU alumni

Keep in mind that on pages like Jared Allen or Matt Gutierrez where a category like Category:Idaho State Bengals football players already exists, it isn't necessary to add its parent category, Category:Idaho State University alumni. Thanks. Pats1 T/C 22:01, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Blue Lakes Mall

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Blue Lakes Mall, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Blue Lakes Mall.
