[edit] Taxonomy

The Indian subsp is referred to as Faunis canens arcesilaus Stichel, 1933 by Marrku Savela. This species may be conspecific with Faunis arcesilaus. Both are referred to as Common Faun. The Common Faun is given the nomenclature in various references as follows -

Evans - Faunis arcesilaus Fabricius
Wynter-Blyth - Faunis arcesilaus (Fabricius)
Haribal - Faunis canens arcesilaus Stichel 1831(in error)
Marrku Savela - Faunis canens arcesilaus Stichel 1933

Only in Marrku Savela's website are the two species listed together separately. Hence separate species wikis have been created till such time this issue is resolved.
