Fauji (Devanagari: फौजी,Nastaliq: فوجی, translation: "Soldier") (1988) was enormously popular TV series about the daily life of an Indian Army regiment. It was produced and directed by Col.K. Kapur (Retd.).

A Highly popular TV Series about a batch of trainees into a commando school, their training and eventual induction as soldiers.

It gave a break to Shahrukh Khan, which transformed him into an overnight heart throb. The character played by Shahrukh Khan (Abhimanyu Rai) gained instant popularity due to its charm, peppiness and the exuberance with which Khan essayed the role. The success paved way for Shah Rukh's next series (Circus) and his foray into filmdom.

One interesting point was that he forced Shahrukh to cut his hair for the serial. Fauji was about commandos joining their training school. Shahrukh Khan was Abhimanyu Rai, a bright young, but naughty trainee. His elder brother Vikram is a senior training officer, who cannot behave with any leniency towards Shahrukh. In one incident, Vikram sentences Shahrukh to a rigorous punishment, but then forgets about him. When he remembers, Shahrukh is still struggling with that punishment even as he is near collapse.
