Talk:Fat Mike
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The Cran Tangerines are his favorite band." -- That seems false. I can't find anything online but a pathetic band of 12 yr-olds going by this name. Here: http://www.vimeo.com/332869. They're probably the ones who added this line. Anyway, it should be deleted, or at least cited. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.177.117.30 (talk) 15:00, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Is there really that much support for Kerry from Fat Mike or the punk scene in general? I always thought supporting third parties or going on vote strike was more punk. Anarchism is refrenced in the work of a lot of political punk and seams a more appropriat philosophy. I think punkvotor, and most political punk artists from Bad Religion to Anti-flag to NOFX are more anti-Bush then pro-Kerry.
- Yeah, there was nothing at all pro-Kerry in the Rock Against Bush compilations; they were strictly "anybody but Bush". --Delirium 03:02, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)
- Fat Mike supported Kerry. There's a photo of them shaking hands that was ridiculed by a number of people, particularly the band Propagandhi. That said, I don't believe any of his projects (like Punkvoter) took a stance of anything but not-Bush. Dylan 17:40, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Aliases
I'm away on vacation (hence the time to edit Wikipedia), but I'd like to see a comprehensive list of aliases fat mike has used on nofx albums. I only have 2 so far (from my nofx wiki), and I only remember which album one of them was used on. please add any info you can. when i return home i'll be able to look at all my albums and do it properly. --Nofxjunkee 07:09, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Article title
I believe this article should be moved to Michael Burkett and that Fat Mike should redirect there instead. This would make more sense since the articles for other band members are: Aaron Abeyta (redirect from El Hefe), Eric Melvin, and Erik Sandin (redirect from Smelly). please discuss. --Nofxjunkee 07:13, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Picture
Fat Mike needs a picture!!
[edit] Fat Mike being fat
The article states that Fat Mike isn't obese but he is borderline I am sure. He's a fat ass and the name sticks.
- not really, look at http://nofx.org/photos/borejournal/img/pantsed.jpg and http://nofx.org/photos/borejournal/img/sibado.JPG . --Nofxjunkee 03:39, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the visual.
- Yes, he is fat.
- That's an incontrovertible fact.
- "Obese" might be a bit of a stretch though.
- Fat Joe, Big Pun, Biggie Smalls...
- They were (are) all obese music artists.
- Fat Mike is just a very obnoxious, ill-informed-albeit talented-somewhat heavyset man with a mixed professional career.

He may be quite fat now, but at 40 that's only to be expected, considering the nickname stems from his youth when he wasn't particularly large - see NOFX dvd for example.
Who gives a shit are you all fucking retarded
[edit] Mike graduating from BHHS
The trivia comment about Mike graduating from Fairfax is downright strange. Mike and I were in the same French class his senior year at BHHS and he helped get me into the school's radio station class. I don't recall him leaving partway through the year. Maybe my memory is just failing me. I still remember paying him $5 for the first NOFX tshirts. :) Anon Y. Mouse 21:41, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
I must add, you are one lucky guy...
[edit] underoath's departure from warped tour
fat mike was indeed responsible for the departure of underOATH from the 2006 vans warped tour. At the pittsburgh show he repeatedly brought up their christian faith and their singer spencer's refusal to do a line of cocaine the night before.
I spoke with Spencer from UO and he said that his band members were jealous...
an actual quote from fat mike "We’re on the Warped Tour this year, and if there is a prayer group, we are gonna destroy it. It really makes me sick to my stomach to have a big punk rock tour with a prayer group on it." >http://www.synthesis.net/music/story.php?type=band&id=330
Yeah I read that quote too and thought it was a bit hypocritical (like "Christians suck b/c they're intolerant so I am intolerant of anyone who prays..."), but maybe he was overstating his views a little on purpose (he's not exacly politically correct). Anyway, in the linked interview below FM strongly denies that it was his fault and says that he likes Underoath (as people). >http://www.punknews.org/article/18930 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.164.147.147 (talk) 21:58, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] children
Why is there a line in the trivia section about a daughter named Vodka something-or-other when the main portion of the article seems to have fairly reliable info about his children?
- That line was a bit of bullshit, most likely so was the claim that he changed his legal surname from Burkett to Dagger; the latter I confirmed by looking up NOFX songs at BMI.com, all of the songs credited to Fat Mike on the albums are listed at BMI.com under the legal name Michael John Burkett. If he had made the alleged name change to Dagger it would have had to have been changed at BMI.com too. --CJ Marsicano 04:16, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
the whole underpossers thing was more about anti-flag being put down then any thing claiming plolitacal bands like anti-flag are stupid its most likely has little or nothing to do with them being religous, as much as it was just more insulting to him and his punk-rock belife system im preety sure those goofs have elements of war themed t-shirts sugesting a trendy intrest in war and soacial world events or maybe thier brain washed war loveing heros.
[edit] Fatness
I know this has been brought up before, but I want to point out that although Fat Mike may not technically be considered "obese", or dangerously overweight, to say that "Fat Mike" is a misnomer nowadays, I think, is misleading. Fat Mike is by no means skinny, and he definately appears to be slightly chubby, and definately could be considered "fat" by some standards. I think it should be noted that the nickname may have originated as somewhat of a misnomer, but more recently has become a somewhat accurate decription of him.

well what should we call him? pleasently plump mike? the bass player for nofx with love handles mike? the dudes fat. hes not obease, but hes not inshape.
Jesus, it really doesnt matter Gerry Wachovsky 21:14, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
- I removed the part that said Mike was actually fat because of WP:LIVING and also WP:OR. I guess you can add it back if you find a reliable source, but it seems pretty insulting to include. Also, people can see the picture for themselves. Michael (not mike) 134.84.96.142 (talk) 17:13, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Age of Erin
It says "...with his wife of 14 years, Erin,..." in the text. Maybe I misunderstand something here, but that is a hoax, right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Asdirk (talk • contribs) 18:24, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
That means that they've been married for 14 years. Come on! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.167.0.173 (talk) 06:34, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
