Fatty Bear is a fictional teddy bear who appeared in a children's adventure game and an activity game from Humongous Entertainment. It seems that, like other Humongous Entertainment games, this game is intended to teach problem solving. Fatty Bear wears red overalls and comes to life when everyone else is asleep. His owner is named Kayla. He has a few friends to help him on his adventure. His best friend is Putt-Putt, but Putt-Putt never actually helps Fatty Bear do anything, you just can see him on the moon when you click on a telescope.
[edit] Characters
Fatty Bear - Stuffed Bear. Fatty Bear is the main character of the game. You control him so he does certain things such as find ingredients for a birthday cake, collecting missing letters, finding a new ribbon for the puppy's box and giving the puppy a bath. Unlike other Humongous Entertainment characters, who usually tote around a list of what to do, Fatty Bear helpfully lists the things for you when you click on him. He is friendly although a bit clumsy.
Kayla - Young Girl. Kayla is Fatty Bear's owner. For most of the game she stays asleep. It is mentioned when you click on the answering machine that she has a friend called Jordan and an Aunt Polly.
Kayla's Parents - Kayla's parents are extremely minor characters. Kayla's father is the only one seen. He comes in to say goodnight to Kalya and to greet her in the morning. His voice is also on the answering machine telling his wife that he was going to be late because he needed to pick up Kayla's present at the pet shop.
Gretchen - Rag Doll. Gives you tasks like blow up balloons and find missing letters. She may give you hints on how to do certain things. She wears a blue dress and a white hat. Resembles a Swedish girl.
Matilda Rabbit - Stuffed Rabbit. Helps with cooking the birthday cake and may give you hints on where to find a new ribbon for the puppy's box. Is able to fly by rotating ears in a helicopter manner. She wears a pink dress. Oddly enough, at the end of the game she continues to remain in the kitchen, although Kayla doesn't seem to notice her absence.
[edit] Software titles
Though other characters from Humongous Entertainment (such as Putt-Putt and Freddi Fish) continued to release on a fairly regular timescale, and new characters were introduced (e.g., Spy Fox), the Fatty Bear series was not continued after the first adventure.
- Fatty Bear's Birthday Surprise (PC, 3DO, (Macintosh) (1993) (Win95/98/Me/XP) (2001) (remade)The scenario behind this game is that Kayla's birthday is coming up, the next day. They have not prepared for it, so Fatty Bear wakes up and, with the help of his friends, organizes a birthday surprise party. Unfortunately, it is not as easy as Fatty Bear thought- he had planned on only making a birthday cake, but in the kitchen was a mysterious wrapped package. If you click on it Fatty Bear opens it, but if you try to do the right thing and not click on it he opens it anyway and releases a small brown puppy who promptly runs away, tearing the ribbon on her box. Fatty Bear brings the ruined ribbon with him for no apparent reason until you find a better ribbon for the box. There is a bone in the refrigerator that you can use to lure the puppy where you want, but if you get the puppy in the box and don't have the ribbon, she will run away again. The puppy preforms little acts of mischief such as stealing the chocolate chips for the birthday cake, running of with letters for the "Happy Birthday" sign, digging in the garden and getting all dirty, and popping balloons you blow up to decorate the room. Oddly enough, doors in Kayla's house automatically open for the puppy as well as Fatty Bear and several other objects dance around or do other things. Perhaps the highlight of the game is making and decorating the birthday cake for Kayla.
- Putt-Putt & Fatty Bear's Activity Pack (1994)
These games are supported by ScummVM and can be played on additional platforms to those for which they were released.
