The "Fatti di Reggio" (Reggio riots) occurred in Reggio Calabria from July 1970 to February 1971. The cause of the protests was the decision to move Calabria's regional capital from Catanzaro to Reggio Calabria.
The protests began peacefully, but after the governement's repression turned into massive riots. There were at least six deaths, fifty-four wounded and thousands were arrested.
The riots ended after 10 months. Catanzaro and Reggio Calabria became Calabria's joint regional capitals.
