Fatih Birol (1958 Ankara, Turkey) is the Chief Economist of the International Energy Agency which he joined in 1995.
He received his first degree in engineering from the Technical University of Istanbul. He then went on to get a doctorate in energy economics from the Technical University of Vienna. After that he worked for six years for OPEC in Vienna.
