Fate is a city in Rockwall County, Texas, United States. The population was 497 at the 2000 census. As of the 2006 census by the North Texas Central Council of Governments, the fate of Fate has improved – the city's population was estimated at 3,300. With much growth, the city's services have grown as well. The city hired its first paid fire chief in 2006.

Many new subdivisions are being built in the area as a result of the growth of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

The Peasall Sisters, a bluegrass/gospel group that contributed a song to the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, recently wrote a song inspired by Fate, about growing up in a small town.

Fate is located at 32°56′2″N, 96°23′4″W (32.933781, -96.384482)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.8 square miles (12.3 km²), of which, 4.7 square miles (12.3 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.42%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 497 people, 177 households, and 149 families residing in the city. The population density was 105.1 people per square mile (40.6/km²). There were 184 housing units at an average density of 38.9/sq mi (15.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.36% White, 2.21% African American, 1.01% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 3.02% from other races, and 0.20% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 13.88% of the population.

There were 177 households out of which 41.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.4% were married couples living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.3% were non-families. 14.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.11.

In the city the population was spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 93.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $61,250, and the median income for a family was $70,673. Males had a median income of $40,417 versus $27,188 for females. The per capita income for the city was $24,344. About 5.6% of families and 4.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 24.6% of those age 65 or over.

Most of Fate is served by the Rockwall Independent School District. A small portion of the city lies within the Royse City Independent School District.
