The Fascism Portal

Fascism is a radical authoritarian political philosophy that combines elements of corporatism, authoritarianism, extreme nationalism, militarism, anti-Anarchism, anti-Communism, and anti-liberalism.

The original Italian Fascist movement ruled Italy from 1922 to 1943 under the leadership of Benito Mussolini. In time, the generic term fascism came to cover a class of related authoritarian political ideologies, parties, and political systems, such as Nazi Germany, Hungary's Arrow Cross Party, Romania's Iron Guard, Spain's Falange, Portugal's Estado Novo, Croatia's Ustaše, the French political movements led by former socialists Marcel Déat and Jacques Doriot, and others.

Mein Kampf (German for "My Struggle", "My Battle", or "My Fight") is the most famous and recognizable work by Adolf Hitler. In it he outlined his political philosophy for the burgeoning Nazi Party. It has become famous for its violent reactions to Judaism and Communism, and is commonly referred to as an outstanding example of propaganda. The book was published in two volumes: Eine Abrechnung ("An Account"), published on July 18, 1925, and Die Nationalsozialistische Bewegung ("The National-Socialistic Movement"), published in 1926. Already popular when Hitler took power in 1933 by the end of World War II about 10 million copies had been distributed.

Benito Mussolini was killed on April 28, 1945 in Milan along with his mistress, Clara Petacci, and ministers and officials of the Italian Social Republic. They were caught by the Italian resistance movement on April 27th at Dongo while heading for Chiavenna to board a plane to escape to Switzerland. They were executed the next day at Giulino di Mezzegra. After their execution their bodies were displayed on the 29th of April in front of a gas station in Milan on the same spot where some anti-fascists had been executed by the government. Their bodies were hung from meat hooks to show to the population that Mussolini was dead and to dishearten any remaining fascists. Mussolini's corpse is the second from the left followed by Petacci's next to him on the right.
