Talk:Faroe Islands national football team
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although the team has been in existence since 1930, neither FIFA nor UEFA considers matches before 1988 as official. Faroe Islands pulled one of the biggest upsets in world soccer history, when they beat Austria 1-0 in their first ever competitive international on 12 September 1990.
How come the first match played by this team is mentioned as July 12 1985 ?? Anyone knows? FvS 19:17, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- [1] The games prior to 1988 and matches against non-FIFA nations are not classified as official by FIFA or the Faroes FA. Mistake, first counted match was 24/08/1988. Will fix. First competitive match was against Austria. DR31 (talk) 19:43, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Does the Faroe Islands have any other sports teams?
- Yes, at least in handball they are taking part in international competitions. A very high estimated but domestic sport is rowing. They have a unique class of own boats (Faroe boats) and make National Championships each summer. It is as popular, as football. Furthermore, the Faroes have good swimming athlets. Chess is also to mention as sport on international level. -- Arne List 07:57, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- We also have a skilled national swimming team and a skilled archery team. We also get better and better chess players. A page should definitely be created, if it hasn't been created already for Helgi Dam Ziska, who's the Faroes' chess prodigy at the moment. And yes, I was also gonna ask about the matches on the right side. It should definitely be changed in a way, that the FIFA recognized matches appear there. Another option would be to have the non-FIFA recognized matches in brackets behind or something. Mulder1982 (talk) 00:42, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
