[edit] A redundant category: Or not?
I am sure that we can agree that the page belongs in Category:Monasteries in the Lazio. Some people will certainly think that it should not also be in Category:Monasteries in Italy. I think this a case where a two-level categorisation is worthwhile. The Lazio one is useful for people who want to find out about Lazio, while the Italy one is useful for people whose immediate interests are broader, and don’t want to have to look at 20 separate categories in order to find out what monasteries there are in Italy. Category:Monasteries in Italy is currently not so huge as to be uncumbersome.
There seems to be a convention (not always followed), that when you want to have employ the two-level standard you make the category Stuff in Region a member not of Stuff in Italy but of Stuff in Italy by region; and you make Stuff in Italy by region the subcat of Stuff in Italy.
I hope that explains why I think that Category:Monasteries in Italy is not in this case redundant. —Ian Spackman 11:42, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
