Farzanegan is a family name from Persia (Iran), where it was chosen by Ahmed, the father of Abbas Farzanegan. At the time when Shah Palhavi came to power, Iranians did not have last names, but used tribal references.[original research?] He decided to be more Western and decreed that Iranians choose a last name instead of the traditional tribal method of identification.[original research?] The name 'Farzanegan' was the second choice of the family, as the first choice (insert), was already taken by a prominent rug merchant.
The Farzanegan Family is present in Iran and much of the Western world, with concentrations in the United States and England.
