Smith, a 12 year old, went through the first audition process and then won her semi-final by the public vote[1][2] to make it to the live final, but did not win the competition [3] She has been labelled as "the next Charlotte Church" but she has been quick to deny this. She also made a brief appearance on the show TMi in December, 2007, with her friends.[4]
The Sunday Mirror and Digital Spy both reported that Simon Cowell has arranged for free singing lessons to be delivered by leading vocal coach Yvie Burnett to Faryl Smith. Burnett previously coached 2007 Britains Got Talent winner Paul Potts and 2006 The X Factor winner Leona Lewis.[5][6]
