Specific Program Information

Clinic Exploration Program The Clinical Exploration Program (CEP) pairs students with physical and mental health professionals to personally experience a broad range of medical and therapeutic fields. Students in the CEP acquire valuable practical knowledge by shadowing professionals on the job in many of NSU's clinics. In working side-by-side with seasoned health professionals, participants gain a first-hand perspective into possible career options. The program organizes rotations with doctors, physical therapists, dentists, certified athletic trainers, psychologists, family therapists, and other professionals. Any undergraduate student can take part in the CEP, regardless of major or professional experience, as long as they have an established GPA at NSU and complete the necessary CEP workshops. The rotations are not based on one's major and are assigned as scheduling permits. This allows participants to explore health careers they would have overlooked. Program participants are given a special blue lab jacket to wear during clinical experiences and are assigned a clinic for one or two rotations a semester.

Community Partnerships Partnerships with community organizations connect the college students and faculty with the world beyond campus. The college has developed strong relationships with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts; the Museum of Art/Fort Lauderdale; Ars Flores, NSU's orchestra in residence; The Promethean Theatre, the university's theater in residence; and other institutions. These partnerships provide avenues of cultural and creative exploration, educational and professional opportunities for students, and ways to share NSU students' spirit and curiosity with the greater community.

Distinguished Speakers Series Each year, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences brings to campus a series of prominent leaders in their fields through the Distinguished Speakers Series. In conjunction with these campus visits, special events are often organized to reflect the speaker's field, expertise, as well as the college's annual academic theme. In previous years, the college has welcomed Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel, author Salman Rushdie, former Presidential Envoy to Iraq Paul Bremer, journalists Bob Woodward and William Safire, science writer Michael Shermer, and poet Judith Ortiz Cofer.

Dual Admission Program The Dual Admission Program, managed by the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, allows a limited number of highly qualified students to apply to the NSU graduate or professional school of their choice at the same time they apply to the undergraduate studies program. The program reserves a seat in graduate school for them. For dual admission students, the intense pressure for admission into graduate/professional schools is minimized, leaving them opportunities to pursue a diversity of interests outside of their intended career goals. The dual admission program links undergraduates to graduate programs in activities outside the classroom, including shadowing programs and networking events.

Undergraduate Honors Program The Undergraduate Honors Program, housed in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, is an interdisciplinary program for all NSU undergraduates. It provides a rich experience for high-achieving students through activities and experiences both in and out of the classroom. The Undergraduate Honors Program is designed to challenge participants through intimate, intensive Honors courses and independent research pursued in collaboration with faculty mentors. Outside the classroom, networking opportunities connect Honors students together into an ambitious community that pushes them to hone their analytical and critical thinking skills.

Leadership Roundtable Scholars The Leadership Roundtable Scholars Program, managed by the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, offers motivated undergraduate students a unique opportunity to develop themselves as community service leaders during their NSU careers. This small program selects ten students each year to explore and develop leadership skills through academic, extracurricular, and service activities. Scholars are part of a four-year program of workshops, activities, and service experiences.

Study Abroad The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences is committed to supporting study abroad opportunities for NSU students. Through study abroad, students earn academic credit while also enriching their academic and personal lives with international experience. Students interested in study abroad take courses with international components in Europe, South America, and Australia. They may also design their own study abroad experiences or participate in international programs organized by other institutions. Study abroad locations vary from year to year.

Theatre and Performing Arts The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences offers a rich variety of opportunities in theatre and the performing arts. The college's Division of Humanities offers a bachelor of arts in theatre and also houses NSU Theatre (the university's performance company), the NSU Symphony Orchestra, the Sharkestra Pep Band, and a college chorale. These groups produce and perform in theatrical, musical, and dance productions throughout the year. The college also partners with The Promethean Theatre, Nova Southeastern University's professional theatre in residence, and Ars Flores, NSU's orchestra in residence.
