Farmingdale is a town in Kennebec County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,804 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 11.5 square miles (29.9 km²), of which, 11.2 square miles (29.0 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²) of it (2.86%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 2,804 people, 1,202 households, and 777 families residing in the town. The population density was 250.2 people per square mile (96.6/km²). There were 1,273 housing units at an average density of 113.6/sq mi (43.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.47% White, 0.71% Black or African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.50% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.53% of the population.

There were 1,202 households out of which 30.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.2% were married couples living together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.84.

In the town the population was spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 86.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $37,236, and the median income for a family was $40,862. Males had a median income of $34,327 versus $24,839 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,494. About 8.6% of families and 9.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.5% of those under age 18 and 6.2% of those age 65 or over.

Farmingdale also features it's own school system, which includes students from Farmingdale, Hallowell, Dresden, and more. The grades go from middle school (6th) all the way through high school.
